Houston Mother Fatally S.h.o.o.t.s 4-Year-Old Daughter Then Herself Hours After Losing Custody Battle

A tragic murder-sᩚuᩚiᩚcide unfolded in Houston, Texas, just hours after a mother lost a contentious custody battle over her young daughter. Cibelle Savella, 35, sH๏τ and killed her 4-year-old child, Vivian, before turning the w𝔢𝔞𝔭𝔬η on herself at their home. The incident occurred on the same day a judge awarded primary custody to the girl’s father.

Savella, originally from Brazil, had been locked in a bitter legal dispute with her ex-husband, Aaron Savella, following their divorce in November 2024 after four years of marriage. On Tuesday, a court hearing delivered a series of unfavorable rulings against her. She was ordered to transfer Vivian to her father’s care that evening. Additional restrictions were imposed, including a ban on speaking to the child in Portuguese unless a language-fluent supervisor was present, a prohibition on attending school events and extracurricular activities, an order to pay child support, and a requirement to cover half of any out-of-pocket medical costs. The precise reasons behind the custody decision and these conditions have not been publicly detailed.

Instead of completing the court-ordered handover, Savella returned to her Houston residence, valued at approximately $824,000. There, she sH๏τ her daughter and then herself. The child’s stepfather and a babysitter were downstairs at the time and heard the gunsH๏τs. They went upstairs and discovered the victims. Savella was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Houston Police Lieutenant Larry Crowson confirmed the timeline, noting that the custody hearing earlier that day had not gone well for the mother. She came home, sH๏τ her 4-year-old, and then sH๏τ herself.

Aaron Savella’s family released a statement expressing profound devastation. They described Vivian as a little girl who was loved without limit by her father and by everyone whose life she touched. The statement emphasized that Aaron had done everything the law required of a parent seeking to protect his child. He trusted the courts, followed every order, and waited for the process to work. On the day of the hearing, a judge placed Vivian in his primary care, and she was expected to come home to him that evening. She never did.

Charlotte Rainwater, the attorney who represented Aaron Savella, said the family was devastated by the outcome. After practicing family law for 28 years, she stated she had never experienced anything comparable and that no one in the courtroom that Tuesday had contemplated such a result.

The case has drawn attention to the intense emotional pressures that can arise in high-conflict custody disputes. Authorities continue to examine the full circumstances surrounding the deaths of both mother and child.
