A Kansas community came together on Monday, October 26, to say goodbye to six-year-old Cole Adrian, a young boy remembered for his love of soccer, his cheerful spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.
Cole’s funeral was held at McPherson Free Methodist Church, where family members, friends, schoolmates and other community members gathered to celebrate his short but meaningful life and support his grieving loved ones.
The kindergartener at Roosevelt Elementary School died following a 𝔠r𝘢sh at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita on October 17. The incident also claimed the life of 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer and left 10 other people injured.
As the community gathered to mourn, the focus remained on remembering Cole as a little boy whose life had touched so many people.
A TRIBUTE REFLECTING THE BOY COLE WAS
Cole’s family asked those attending the funeral to wear blue, soccer jerseys or camouflage in his honor.
The request reflected some of the things he loved most. Soccer was a favorite activity, while blue clothing and camouflage were also closely associated with him.
The colors and clothing helped turn the funeral into a personal tribute to the young boy, allowing mourners to celebrate his interests while sharing in the family’s grief.
For those who knew Cole, the gathering was not only a farewell but also an opportunity to remember the personality and passions that made him special.
A COMMUNITY UNITED IN GRIEF
Cole’s dєatᩚh deeply affected McPherson, where his school and the wider community came together to support his family.
McPherson Public Schools closed on the day of the funeral, allowing students and staff to attend the service and pay their respects.
The decision reflected the impact of the tᩚraɢedy on the school community, where the loss of such a young student was felt by classmates, educators and families alike.
The funeral brought together people whose lives had intersected with Cole’s, offering them an opportunity to stand alongside his loved ones during an unimaginable loss.
THE 𝔠r𝘢sh THAT SHOOK THE COMMUNITY
The fatal incident occurred on October 17 at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas.
Cole died in the 𝔠r𝘢sh, which also claimed the life of 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer. Ten other people were reported injured.
The incident brought shock and sadness to families and members of the wider community, particularly those connected to the sports complex.
While the circumstances of the 𝔠r𝘢sh remain part of the broader story, the funeral offered an opportunity to step away from the headlines and focus on the lives affected by the tᩚraɢedy.
For Cole’s family, the loss means facing a future without a six-year-old whose life was only just beginning.
“LAUGH LIKE COLE, LOVE LIKE COLE, LIVE LIKE COLE”
Among the most meaningful tributes to Cole is the phrase shared in his memory:
“Laugh Like Cole, Love Like Cole, Live Like Cole.”
The message captures how his loved ones hope he will be remembered — not only through the tᩚraɢedy of his dєatᩚh, but through the joy, love and memories associated with his life.
At just six years old, Cole had so much of childhood still ahead of him. His dєatᩚh has left a painful absence for his family, friends and school community.
Yet the words chosen to honor him offer a way for those who loved him to carry his memory forward.
A FINAL GOODBYE, BUT NOT A FORGOTTEN LIFE
As mourners gathered in McPherson, the sadness of losing Cole was accompanied by an outpouring of love and support for his family.
The service marked a heartbreaking farewell to a little boy whose life ended far too soon. It also showed how a community can come together to remember a child and support those left grieving.
For Cole’s loved ones, the days ahead will bring the difficult task of navigating life without him. The memories they shared, along with the tributes offered by the community, will remain part of his story.
Cole Adrian was only six years old, but the love surrounding him was evident in the people who came together to honor his memory.
May his family find comfort in that love, and may his memory continue to inspire those who knew him to laugh, love and live like Cole.
