PRIEST diᩚєs AFTER HEAVY CRUCIFIX FALLS ON HIM DURING LIVESTREAMED MASS IN ECUADOR

Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, 53, was reflecting on life, dєatᩚh and the importance of family when a large wooden crucifix fell from the wall behind him. The fatal accident shocked his congregation and left worshippers grieving a beloved priest.

A Catholic priest in Ecuador has died after a large wooden crucifix fell on him during a Mass that was being livestreamed from his church.

Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari was celebrating Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Guayaquil on the evening of October 17, 2026, when the crucifix mounted behind the altar suddenly came loose and struck him.

The incident was captured on the livestream. Worshippers could be heard shouting for help as several people rushed toward the priest. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil later confirmed his dєatᩚh and expressed its condolences to his family, friends and religious community.

A SERMON ABOUT LIFE AND dєatᩚh

In a heartbreaking coincidence, Father Patricio had been speaking about the uncertainty of life shortly before the accident.

During his reflection, he reminded those attending the service that everyone would eventually face dєatᩚh. He also encouraged the congregation to value the time they spent with God and the people they loved, including their spouses, children and families.

His words took on a deeply poignant meaning after the tᩚraɢedy unfolded just moments later.

The priest had been facing the congregation and did not appear to notice the crucifix falling behind him before it struck his head.

A BELOVED MEMBER OF THE CHURCH COMMUNITY

Father Patricio served as parish priest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Guayaquil. He belonged to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorists, a Catholic religious order devoted to missionary work and pastoral ministry.

Following his dєatᩚh, the Archdiocese of Guayaquil issued a statement mourning the loss of the priest and offering prayers for his eternal rest.

His dєatᩚh prompted an outpouring of grief among members of the local Catholic community, many of whom had gathered to worship with him that evening. A memorial Mass was also arranged in his honour.

WHAT CAUSED THE CRUCIFIX TO FALL?

The circumstances surrounding the accident have raised questions about why the heavy wooden structure came loose from the wall.

However, at the time of the initial reports, the precise cause had not been officially established. Authorities had not publicly announced a final finding, and there was no confirmed explanation identifying a structural defect or assigning responsibility.

The tᩚraɢedy serves as a painful reminder of how suddenly an ordinary moment can change the lives of an entire community.

TRAGIC LOSS THAT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN

For those who knew Father Patricio, his dєatᩚh was not simply a 𝘴h☉𝔠king incident caught on camera. It was the loss of a priest who had spent his life serving his congregation and sharing his faith.

His final sermon urged people to treasure their time with God and their loved ones. Those words now remain part of the memory his congregation carries forward.

As parishioners continue to mourn, prayers are being offered for his family, friends and fellow members of the Redemptorist community.

May Father Patricio Sánchez Molinari rest in peace. May his loved ones and grieving congregation find comfort and strength during this heartbreaking time. 🤍🕊️
