Wrecked McLaren Supercar Suddenly Bursts Into Flames in Storage Weeks After 𝔠r𝘢sh Killed Two

A wrecked McLaren supercar involved in a fatal 𝔠r𝘢sh in California has unexpectedly caught fire again while being held inside a secure storage facility, raising fresh questions for investigators examining the diᩚadℓy collision.

The vehicle, a 2019 McLaren 720S, was involved in a 𝔠r𝘢sh in Irvine on September 13, 2026, that killed driver James Wehr, 27, and passenger Alexis Helena Kramer, 22.

According to Irvine police, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed after leaving a red light when it veered off the road, struck a curb and slammed into a tree. The impact split the vehicle apart, and it caught fire. Both occupants died at the scene.

The wreckage was later transported to a secured tow facility in Costa Mesa, where it was being stored as part of the ongoing investigation.

More than a month after the 𝔠r𝘢sh, the damaged vehicle caught fire again. Police said the front section of the McLaren appeared to ignite spontaneously on October 14. Security footage reportedly captured a small flame emerging before the fire grew and smoke filled the storage area.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicated that nobody was present or had interacted with the wreckage immediately before the fire began. The cause of the second fire remains under investigation.

Authorities have noted that the original collision caused extensive damage to the car’s structure and electrical system. Investigators are also consulting McLaren representatives and other specialists as they assess the wreckage.

It remains unclear whether the additional fire will affect the investigation into the fatal 𝔠r𝘢sh. Police said they were evaluating the potential impact while continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Wehr was known as a co-founder of South OC Cars and Coffee, a popular car enthusiast community. Kramer, 22, was visiting from Florida.

The unusual second fire has added another complication to an already difficult investigation, leaving authorities to determine what caused the wrecked supercar to ignite again inside a secured facility.
