POLICE CALLED TO FLORIDA SOCCER GAME INVOLVING 3-YEAR-OLD BOY AFTER DISPUTE OVER HIS PLAYING TIME

A youth soccer game in Winter Park, Florida, has become the center of a heated online debate after police were called following a dispute involving a 3-year-old player named Nevada Pierre.

Videos circulating on social media show Nevada confidently dribbling past other young players and scoring goals during an i9 Sports league game on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The footage quickly attracted millions of views, with many viewers expressing disbelief that a disagreement involving a preschool-aged child had escalated to the point where police were called.

Nevada’s parents, Martasia Griffin and Don Pierre, said they believed their son was being removed from the program because he was playing exceptionally well compared with the other children.

However, the league official involved disputed that characterization, saying the disagreement also concerned the child’s conduct on the field and a dispute over playing time.

WHY DID THE LEAGUE OFFICIAL CALL 911?

According to the Winter Park Police Department, officers were contacted by a soccer league official who reported a disturbance involving league personnel and the player’s parents.

The official, identified in news reports as Thomas Hayes, told officers that the parents were upset after Nevada was taken out of the game to allow other children more opportunities to play.

He also alleged that the parents had become disruptive during the disagreement. Hayes told officers that Nevada was particularly advanced for his age but claimed the boy had been pushing other players while scoring goals.

Nevada’s mother offered a different account. She told officers that she believed her son was being excluded because of his soccer ability and questioned why a child who had signed up to play was being treated that way.

The competing accounts have become a central part of the controversy. Publicly available footage and statements have not established that Nevada was removed solely because he was more skilled than his teammates.

WHAT POLICE SAID AFTER ARRIVING

Winter Park police confirmed that officers responded to the field following the league official’s request for assistance.

According to the department, the league had asked the family to leave the program and offered to refund the participation fee. The official then asked officers to speak with the parents because he did not want the disagreement to continue.

Police said the family cooperated with officers and indicated that the game was over and they were leaving.

Importantly, the department clarified that the incident was a civil dispute rather than a criminal matter.

No one was arrested, formally trespassed or forced to leave the park, according to police. Officers also provided the family with an incident number at their request.

THE LEAGUE SAYS IT IS REVIEWING THE INCIDENT

The incident has prompted widespread discussion about fairness, sportsmanship and how youth leagues should handle children with different skill levels.

In a statement, i9 Sports Maitland/Winter Park said it was aware of the concerns being shared online and was taking them seriously.

The organization emphasized that the respectful treatment and well-being of every child and family mattered. It also said it had contacted the family and begun reviewing the incident, including speaking with those involved.

The league declined to speculate or share unverified information
