Georgia Man Severely Disfigured by His Own Dogs Says He Still Loves Them and Plans to Keep Them

A Georgia man who suffered devastating facial injuries while trying to break up a fight between his two family dogs says he does not blame the animals for what happened and has no plans to give them up.

Dustin Low, from Cherokee County, was left with severe wounds to his forehead and nose after intervening in the dogs’ fight. He described the incident as lasting only about five minutes, followed by a desperate effort to catch his breath and control the bleeding.

His wife, Chelsea Low, recalled the moment her husband came downstairs asking for help with the pets. When she saw the extent of his injuries, she immediately told him he needed to get to a hospital.

Despite the frightening experience, the couple believes the attack was a freak accident rather than an intentional act by their dogs. Chelsea said she did not believe the animals meant to hurt her husband, and the family intends to keep them.

Dustin has since undergone two major reconstructive surgeries. Doctors performed a complex forehead flap procedure using skin from his forehead to help reconstruct his nose, followed by surgery to take cartilage from his ear to rebuild the bridge of his nose.

He now faces another operation as part of his recovery. The couple says outstanding medical bills have become a major obstacle, with $12,310 needed to clear the debt from the first two procedures before the next surgery can go ahead. They have launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs.

Chelsea has described the emotional toll of watching her husband recover while being unable to return to his normal routine. She said Dustin has always shown his love for others through helping them, making the loss of independence particularly difficult.

The couple remains hopeful that further surgery will help restore his appearance and improve his quality of life. For now, they are focused on his recovery and raising the money needed for treatment.
