SIX MONTHS OF AGONY: SAVANNAH GUTHRIE’S MISSING MOTHER NANCY STILL HAS NOT BEEN FOUND AS FAMILY PLEADS FOR ANSWERS
Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her Arizona home in February. Despite extensive investigations, surveillance footage and public appeals, her family is still waiting for answers.
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, remains unresolved, leaving her family facing months of uncertainty and heartbreak.
Nancy was last seen at her home near Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31, 2026. She was reported missing the following day, and investigators believe she was taken from her home against her will.
More than six months later, authorities have continued to seek information that could help establish what happened to her and identify whoever may have been responsible.
For Savannah and her family, the passage of time has brought no clear resolution.
AN EMOTIONAL PLEA FROM A DAUGHTER
In August, marking six months since her mother’s disappearance, Savannah made another public appeal for information.
She described the family’s ongoing anguish and urged anyone who might recognize details connected to the case to come forward.
The family has repeatedly asked the public to pay attention to anything unusual that may have been noticed around the time Nancy disappeared. Even a seemingly minor observation, they have emphasized, could prove important.
Savannah has also spoken about wanting answers so that her mother can be treated with dignity and the family can understand what happened.
The family is offering a reward of $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s recovery. The FBI has separately announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information connected to the case.
SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE AND A COMPLEX INVESTIGATION
Investigators have examined surveillance images showing an unidentified person near Nancy’s home around the time she disappeared.
Authorities previously described the individual as a man of average build, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. The footage and other forensic evidence have formed part of the continuing investigation.
Blood found outside Nancy’s home was confirmed to be hers, according to the Pima County sheriff. Investigators have also examined DNA evidence, although some forensic testing has not produced results that identify a suspect.
The case has involved local law enforcement and the FBI, with investigators continuing to review potential leads and evidence.
Despite the extensive work, officials have not publicly identified a suspect in connection with Nancy’s disappearance.
QUESTIONS ABOUT RANSOM NOTES
The investigation has also included messages that appeared to demand money in exchange for Nancy’s return.
In July, Reuters reported that the FBI had determined that three messages linked to the disappearance—including two purported ransom notes—were fake. According to the report, investigators concluded that the messages came from a sender unrelated to Nancy’s disappearance.
That finding cast doubt on the theory that the disappearance was connected to a genuine ransom demand.
Authorities have continued to investigate the case, and the existence of fraudulent messages has added another layer of complexity to an already difficult search.
In September, officials also said a newly reported possible ransom message was not credible after it was reviewed by the joint investigative task force. Authorities urged anyone receiving suspicious communications about Nancy to report them rather than assume they were genuine.
A FAMILY STILL WAITING
Nancy’s disappearance has drawn national attention, in part because of Savannah’s public profile, but the family’s appeals have remained focused on a deeply personal hope: finding out what happened to their mother and bringing the case to a resolution.
Savannah and her siblings have continued to ask for help, stressing that people who witnessed something unusual may not realize the significance of what they saw.
For now, the investigation remains active, and Nancy’s whereabouts have not been publicly established.
Her family continues to wait for information that could bring clarity after months of fear, grief and unanswered questions.
