A Cowboy Found a Runaway Bride on His Ranch—Then Recognized Her Last Name

PART 1: THE BRIDE AT THE RANCH GATE
“Please, sir… I can’t go back. My father will find me.”
The beautiful woman stood outside my ranch, wearing a torn white wedding dress.
Her makeup was ruined by tears.
One shoe was missing.
And she was trembling.
But when she told me her last name, my blood ran cold.
Because her father was the man who destroyed my family fifteen years ago.
My name is Jake Morgan. I’m 41 years old, and I own a small cattle ranch outside Austin, Texas.
I’ve lived alone for ten years.
No wife. No children.
Just my horses and the land my father left me.
That evening, I was repairing a fence when I noticed a woman walking down the dusty road.
“Ma’am, are you okay?”
She shook her head.
“I ran away from my wedding.”
I stared at her.
“Why?”
She wiped her tears.
“Because I discovered my fiancé was marrying me for my father’s money.”
I opened the gate.
“Come inside. You look exhausted.”
Her name was Olivia.
She was twenty-eight, with long brown hair and frightened green eyes.
I gave her water and a clean blanket.
“What’s your last name?” I asked.
“Whitmore.”
My hands froze.
“Whitmore?”
She nodded.
“Olivia Whitmore.”
I slowly put down my coffee.
“Is your father Richard Whitmore?”
Her expression changed.
“You know him?”
I looked toward the old farmhouse.
Fifteen years ago, Richard Whitmore had taken control of my father’s ranch through a fraudulent land deal.
My father lost everything.
And died believing he’d failed our family.
“Yes,” I whispered.
“I know your father very well.”
Olivia noticed my expression.
“What did he do to you?”
Before I could answer, my phone rang.
An unknown number.
I answered.
“Jake Morgan?”
“Speaking.”
A cold voice replied:
“This is Richard Whitmore. My daughter is missing.”
My stomach tightened.
“Why are you calling me?”
“Because someone saw her walking toward your ranch.”
I looked at Olivia.
She was shaking her head desperately.
“Don’t tell him,” she whispered.
Richard continued:
“Keep her there. I’m coming.”
Then he added:
“And Jake, if you help her escape, you’ll lose what’s left of your ranch.”
The call ended.
Olivia began crying.
“You don’t understand. My father arranged the marriage.”
“Why?”
She reached into her wedding dress and pulled out a folded document.
“Because my grandfather left me something.”
I opened it.
My heart nearly stopped.
It was an original land deed.
The deed to my father’s stolen ranch.
I stared at Olivia.
“Where did you get this?”
She whispered:
“My grandfather told me to find you if anything happened.”
Then headlights appeared outside.
Three black SUVs stopped at my gate.
Olivia grabbed my hand.
“Jake, please…”
Her voice trembled.
“My father didn’t just steal your family’s land.”
I looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
She whispered:
“He knows what really happened the night your father died.”
