CHRISTА PIKE BREAKS HER SILENCE ONE MONTH AFTER BOTCHED exє𝔠uti☉n — “THERE HASN’T BEEN A MOMENT” WITHOUT PAIN

The Tennessee dєatᩚh row inmate says she continues to suffer physical and emotional pain after surviving a failed lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n attempt. In her first public statement, she also described the uncertainty of waking up in a hospital after believing her life was about to end.

“I WAS PREPARED TO DIE”

Christa Pike has spoken publicly for the first time since surviving a failed exє𝔠uti☉n attempt in Tennessee, revealing that she has been living with constant pain since waking up in hospital.

The 50-year-old inmate released a statement through her attorneys on Friday, October 30 — exactly one month after state officials attempted to execute her at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

Pike said she entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber on September 30 believing she was going to die. She had already said goodbye to the people who had supported her throughout the years and believed she had made peace with her fate.

“I had not contemplated life beyond that night,” she said.

But the exє𝔠uti☉n did not go as planned.

Pike said she regained consciousness several days later in a hospital, confused and in pain.

“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” she said in the statement dictated to her legal team.

She described pain in her body, arms, hands and throat, adding that she continues to struggle with speaking.

The suffering, she explained, has not been limited to physical injuries.

“And the pain isn’t just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul.”

Pike also criticised the handling of the exє𝔠uti☉n attempt, saying she was deeply hurt by what she described as serious incompetence that had placed so many people in a terrible position.

ISOLATION AFTER RETURNING TO PRISON

Following her hospital treatment, Pike was transferred back to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville.

In her statement, she described being largely isolated in the prison’s medical unit.

She said the lack of contact with other people had brought back memories of the 28 years she had spent in solitary confinement.

The experience, she indicated, has added another layer of emotional distress to an already difficult recovery.

Pike said she was grateful to the medical workers who helped save her life and to people who had shown her kindness and support.

April 12, 2012; Nashville, TN, USA; Christa Gail Pike, on death row for a slaying, appears in court Thursday to fight a conviction in a 2001 attack on an inmate. SHE SAYS SHE STILL THINKS ABOUT THE VICTIM’S FAMILY

Pike was sentenced to dєatᩚh for the 1995 𝘬iᩚlling of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a classmate she met through the Knoxville Job Corps program.

The crime took place when Pike was 18. Her conviction and dєatᩚh sentence have remained in place despite the failed exє𝔠uti☉n attempt.

In her new statement, Pike acknowledged the suffering endured by Slemmer’s loved ones.

“I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured,” she said.

Her words come after Slemmer’s family had prepared for the scheduled exє𝔠uti☉n, only to learn that the procedure had failed.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Pike said she does not know why she survived that night or what will happen next.

For now, she says she is recovering and trying to take each day as it comes.

“I am recovering, and I know that I am getting stronger. But healing is not the same as being okay,” she said.

The failed exє𝔠uti☉n has prompted an investigation into Tennessee’s procedures. Governor Bill Lee suspended the state’s remaining executions scheduled for 2026 while officials review what happened. The state’s prison chief has also resigned.

Pike remains under a dєatᩚh sentence, and no new exє𝔠uti☉n date has been announced.

One month after entering the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber believing she would not leave alive, she is now facing an uncertain future — one she says she never expected to have.
