16-YEAR-OLD BOY KILLED AND SISTER INJURED IN 80-MPH HIT-AND-RUN — WOMAN, 28, ARRESTED WEEKS LATER

Hernan Martinez died after a speeding Nissan struck him and his 14-year-old sister as they crossed a South Los Angeles street with their mother. Police say the driver fled the scene and was arrested more than a month later.

A South Los Angeles family is still grieving after a 16-year-old boy was killed and his younger sister seriously injured in a high-speed hit-and-run collision.

Hernan Martinez and his 14-year-old sister, Vicky, were crossing a street with their mother in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the night of September 22, 2026, when they were struck by a blue Nissan Sentra.

The collision happened at approximately 9:35 p.m. near the intersection of 60th Street and 10th Avenue.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the Nissan was traveling eastbound on 60th Street at a high rate of speed when it went through a stop sign and struck the two teenagers.

Investigators later estimated that the vehicle was traveling approximately 80 mph — around 129 km/h — before the collision.

Hernan died at the scene. His younger sister suffered severe injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Their mother was not physically injured. She managed to pull Vicky away from the vehicle’s direct path.

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER ALLEGEDLY FLED

After striking the siblings, the Nissan continued forward and crashed into a parked vehicle, leaving it disabled.

Police said the female driver and a male passenger abandoned the vehicle and ran away from the scene.

Investigators later identified the suspected driver as 28-year-old Raygine Glentasia Evans.

Authorities also identified the passenger as Joannae Shavon Rosby.

According to investigators, Evans and Rosby were subsequently picked up by another person driving a red Honda Accord.

The investigation continued for several weeks as detectives reviewed surveillance footage, examined evidence and worked to establish the identities and whereabouts of those involved.

SUSPECT ARRESTED MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER THE COLLISION

On October 28, detectives from the LAPD South Traffic Division, assisted by Metropolitan Division personnel, located and arrested Evans in Los Angeles.

She was booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal collision.

Her bail was set at $3.255 million, according to reports.

The arrest was announced publicly on October 29, bringing a significant development in a case that had left the Martinez family waiting for answers.

Police said they were still searching for Rosby, whose whereabouts had not been established in the reports following Evans’ arrest.

Authorities also said two other individuals faced charges related to allegedly helping those involved after the collision.

An arraignment date for Evans had not been announced in the reports available at the time.

DETECTIVE DESCRIBES THE SUSPECT’S ALLEGED BEHAVIOR

During a news conference, LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno discussed the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the alleged flight from the scene.

He said investigators were particularly disturbed by surveillance footage that appeared to show Evans using her cellphone while running away after the collision.

Moreno also described what he characterized as her apparent lack of emotion when discussing the case.

Comparing the demeanor to Michael Myers, the fictional horror character, he explained that investigators sometimes encounter suspects who express remorse and want to speak with victims’ families, while others appear indifferent.

His comments reflected the frustration surrounding a collision in which two young siblings were struck while walking with their mother.

INVESTIGATORS ALSO EXAMINING OTHER ALLEGED CRIMES

During the investigation, detectives said they uncovered information linking Evans to several alleged robberies reported in the month before the collision, as well as incidents in the San Fernando Valley.

Police also described her as a person of interest in other investigations involving alleged burglaries.

These matters are separate from the fatal collision, and the allegations have not been established as convictions.

A FAMILY LEFT WITH AN UNIMAGINABLE LOSS

Hernan’s dєatᩚh has devastated his family.

His older brother, Eliseo Martinez Hernandez, spoke publicly about the teenager after police announced Evans’ arrest.

“He was the sweetest kid ever,” Eliseo said in an interview with FOX 11.

He also described how happy Hernan had been after the family moved into their new home, saying his younger brother had been enjoying life and deserved the future that lay ahead of him.

“Nothing is going to bring him back,” he said.

The family’s pain has been compounded by the serious injuries suffered by Vicky, who was also caught up in the collision.

The arrest of the suspected driver may represent an important step in the investigation, but it cannot undo the loss of Hernan or the difficult recovery facing his younger sister.

For the Martinez family, the memories of a teenage boy who had so much life ahead of him remain at the center of a tᩚraɢedy that has changed their lives forever.
