A New York City-born content creator was arrested in Colombia and charged with weapons trafficking — after authorities trying to collect overdue rent discovered a cache of guns and drugs in her apartment, officials said.
The National Police and a judge visited the home of 24-year-old Wendy Durán on Monday to serve an asset seizure warrant to recover an outstanding rent payment, the Attorney General’s Office said.
Inside, they immediately spotted two 9mm Glocks on a table next to a television in the living room, officials said.
Durán said she did not have a permit to possess or carry a firearm and was placed under arrest as police searched the rest of her Pance home, where they allegedly found US-made 5.56-caliber Colt rifle hidden inside a closet along with a magazine holding 35 rounds, two holographic sights, and a laser attachment.
Cops also confiscated $4,844 in cash, a money-counting machine, two digital scales, a cell phone, two laptops, and drugs, officials said.
Durán pleaded not guilty to manufacturing, trafficking, and carrying firearms and ammunition. She remains in custody, and has not been charged for possessing drugs. Authorities did not specify what type of narcotics the influencer allegedly had stashed away.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the content creator’s potential involvement in other criminal acts, as well as the origin and intended destination of the items discovered,” the Attorney General’s Office said.
Durán, who was born in Manhattan and is also a Colombian citizen, is known as “sociallywendyy” on Instagram, where she created content about brand expansion to more than 8,000 followers.
“I create authentic content that captures attention, builds trusts, and drives results,” she boasted.
She displayed her water sport skills in her most recent post on Oct. 5.
“I moved from NY to Colombia and somehow, this became my life!” she wrote. “Being able to do the outdoorsy things that I love any day of the week (and season) is one of my fav parts about living in (Colombia).”
But her athleticism was the last thing on the minds of Durán’s followers, who slammed her for her arrest.
“You thought you were going to make content without getting caught,” one follower commented.
