MISSOURI COUPLE VANISHES WITHOUT A TRACE — THEIR DOG IS ALSO MISSING, AND INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS
Leo and Katherine Lindeman disappeared from their rural home in September. Their vehicle and personal belongings were reportedly left behind, while their small white dog vanished with them. More than a month later, authorities say the mystery remains unsolved.
ANDERSON, MISSOURI — A Missouri family is desperately searching for answers after an elderly couple and their beloved dog disappeared from their rural home, leaving behind a series of unanswered questions.
Leo Lindeman, 73, and his wife, Katherine Lindeman, 74, were last known to have been in contact with others around September 15–16, 2026. Their disappearance was reported to authorities on September 24, according to the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office.
Their small white dog, known as Itty Bitty, is also missing.
The couple lived in a rural area near Anderson, in southwestern Missouri. When family members became aware of their disappearance and went to check on the property, the situation raised immediate concerns.
Their vehicle was still at the home, and their personal belongings had reportedly been left behind. The house was found unlocked, with doors and windows open.
There was no clear explanation for where the couple had gone.
A DISAPPEARANCE THAT WENT UNREPORTED FOR DAYS
According to accounts surrounding the case, a neighbor had spent time with Katherine at a weekly dinner on September 15, while Leo remained at home awaiting an electrician’s appointment.
The following day, the neighbor reportedly stopped by to return dishes from the previous evening. The home appeared empty, and the dishes were left behind with a note.
Authorities were not notified until September 24, when the couple failed to appear for their usual weekly dinner.
Because Leo and Katherine were described as private people who did not regularly interact with every neighbor, their absence had not immediately raised an alarm.
McDonald County Sheriff Robert Evenson described the case as a mystery, explaining that the couple’s limited contact with neighbors was not unusual.
INVESTIGATORS SEARCH THE HOME AND SURROUNDING PROPERTY
Authorities obtained a search warrant and carried out a more extensive examination of the property.
Investigators searched for fingerprints, collected trace evidence and electronic devices, and examined the surrounding land.
Around 20 dog-search teams were also involved in searches of the property and nearby areas, looking for signs of a struggle, forced entry or anything that could help explain what happened.
However, investigators have not publicly identified evidence confirming that the couple was harmed.
Sheriff Evenson told local media that the scene appeared as though the couple had simply left.
Their known cell phone and vehicle were also reportedly still at the home, adding to the questions surrounding their disappearance.
ONE MONTH LATER, THE MYSTERY REMAINS
As of October 24, investigators had made no significant breakthrough.
A review of the couple’s financial records had reportedly produced no information that could establish where they went. Detectives were still awaiting information from search warrants and subpoenas, while the couple’s laptop had been sent to a computer laboratory for examination.
Family members have also shared concerns about the couple’s health, saying both had been experiencing health difficulties.
Despite the uncertainty, authorities have said they are keeping an open mind about what may have happened. Sheriff Evenson even acknowledged the possibility that the couple could be alive and may have chosen not to be found, asking them to contact authorities if that is the case.
