“SHE WENT OUT FOR A WALK WITH HER DOG — AND NEVER CAME HOME”: SAL GALLOWAY’S FINAL WALK ENDS IN HEARTBREAK

Sal Galloway, 59, was swept into the sea by a powerful wave while walking along the Isle of Wight coastline during Storm Boelo. Her dog survived, as family and friends remember a woman described as beautiful and kind-hearted.

A routine walk along the coast turned into an unimaginable tᩚraɢedy when a woman was swept into the sea during powerful storm conditions.

Sal Galloway, 59, lost her life on October 26 while walking her dog along the promenade between Sandown and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

As Storm Boelo battered the coastline with strong winds and rough seas, emergency services rushed to the area following reports of a woman in the water.

Despite a major search-and-rescue response, Sal could not be saved.

Her dog survived the incident, but the woman who had set out for an ordinary walk never returned home.

In the days since the tᩚraɢedy, tributes have poured in from relatives, friends and members of the local community, who have described Sal as a beautiful woman whose loss has left many heartbroken.

🕊️💔 TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR WOMAN LOST AT SEA 59-year-old Sal Galloway has died after being swept into the sea during stormy weather off the Isle of Wight. Loved ones are rememberingA MAJOR SEARCH ALONG THE ISLE OF WIGHT COAST

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 11:17 a.m. on October 26 after reports that a woman had entered the water near the coastal promenade.

A large rescue operation was launched, involving police officers, paramedics, HM Coastguard teams, a rescue helicopter and Bembridge RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat.

Rescuers searched the waters and coastline as difficult weather conditions made the operation challenging.

Sal’s body was recovered from the water shortly after midday, south of Sandown Pier.

Her dog was found alive and taken to a nearby café while emergency crews continued their response.

Police confirmed that Sal’s next of kin had been informed. A file was also being prepared for the coroner as part of the formal process following her dєatᩚh.

As news of Sal’s passing spread, those who knew her began sharing emotional messages of remembrance.

One devastated relative paid tribute to her as a beautiful cousin, writing:

“RIP to my beautiful cousin Sal Galloway. Can’t believe I’m writing this. Fly high my darling.”

Another friend described Sal as a lovely woman who always made time for others.

“Rest in peace my dear friend Sal Galloway. Didn’t see you much but you were a lovely lady. Always had time for everyone.”

The message continued with condolences to her family and friends, recognising how many people had been touched by her life.

One childhood friend shared a particularly personal farewell:

“My childhood best friend. Will miss you.”

Other messages came from members of the local scootering community, where Sal was also remembered with affection.

Together, the tributes paint a picture of a woman who was loved by many and whose absence will be deeply felt.

STORM CONDITIONS TURNED A COASTAL WALK INTO A DANGEROUS JOURNEY

The tᩚraɢedy happened as Storm Boelo brought powerful winds, heavy rain and dangerous sea conditions to parts of the United Kingdom.

Along exposed stretches of coastline, large waves and strong gusts created serious risks for anyone walking close to the water.

Following the incident, Isle of Wight Council urged residents and visitors to stay away from sea walls, slipways, cliff edges and exposed coastal paths during severe weather.

Dog walkers were specifically advised to keep their pets on leads.

The council also warned people not to turn their backs on the sea or approach rough water to take photographs.

Anyone who sees someone in difficulty in the water should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard rather than attempting a dangerous rescue themselves.

A FAMILY AND COMMUNITY LEFT WITH AN UNIMAGINABLE LOSS

For Sal’s loved ones, the tᩚraɢedy has left behind more than the shock of an unexpected loss.

They are now remembering the everyday moments that made her special: friendships, shared memories and the kindness that those closest to her say she showed to others.

Her final outing had been a simple walk with her dog. It was not meant to become the last chapter of her life.

But as tributes continue to appear, friends and family are finding ways to honour the woman they knew and loved.

The dog who accompanied her survived, but Sal’s family and friends must now face life without her.

One walk, one devastating moment and a loss that has left so many hearts broken. Rest in peace, Sal Galloway. May your memory live on in everyone who loved you. 🕊️🤍
