Nelio Gouveia, 45, admitted murdering Jennifer Symonds at Oxford Crown Court after her body was discovered near a private members’ club beside the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames. He will be sentenced next month.

A man has admitted murdering a former Microsoft employee whose body was found in the River Thames in Oxfordshire earlier this year.

Nelio Gouveia, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of murder at Oxford Crown Court on October 29, 2026, in connection with the dєatᩚh of Jennifer Symonds, 44.

The guilty plea brought a significant development in the case, which began when emergency services were called to Phyllis Court Drive in Henley-on-Thames at approximately 7:50 a.m. on March 6.

Jennifer was found dead at the scene near Phyllis Court, a private members’ club on the banks of the River Thames.

A post-mortem examination established that she had died from drowning.

JENNIFER HAD BUILT A CAREER AT MICROSOFT

Jennifer was remembered as a professional who had built a career in the technology industry.

She had worked at Microsoft since 2018 and was a senior customer success account manager at the company’s UK headquarters in Reading.

Before entering her professional career, she studied physical geography at the University of Gloucestershire between 2000 and 2003.

She was also captain of the university’s hockey team, reflecting her involvement in sport during her student years.

Her dєatᩚh has left family members, friends and former colleagues mourning a woman whose life extended far beyond the circumstances of the case.

POLICE OFFER SUPPORT TO HER FAMILY

He said they had lost someone who was dear to them and welcomed the guilty plea.

The police also confirmed that specialist family liaison officers were supporting Jennifer’s next of kin.

Her family has asked for privacy as they continue to cope with the loss.

SENTENCING DATE SET FOR NOVEMBER 20

He remains in custody and is expected back before Oxford Crown Court on November 20, when the court will determine his punishment.

For Jennifer’s loved ones, the admission brings an important development after months of uncertainty, but it cannot undo the loss of someone they cared about.
