Bodycam and Surveillance Footage Released in the Fatal Police Sh**ting of 1-Year-Old Kohen Wiley

More than four months after a police śh́óóting in a Senatobia, Mississippi, Walmart parking lot claimed the life of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley, authorities and independent outlets released extensive video of the incident in late October 2026. The footage includes both store surveillance and body-worn camera recordings, including the perspective of the officer who fired the sH๏τs.

The śh́óóting took place on the afternoon of June 14, 2026. Senatobia police officers had been inside a Walmart security office reviewing store cameras when an employee alerted them that two people were running. Officers quickly left the room and moved into the parking lot, where they approached a gray sedan occupied by Kohen Wiley, his mother Vellesiya Wiley, and the driver, Latoya Ferrell. As officers ordered the vehicle to stop, the car reversed and struck a parked vehicle before accelerating forward and turning. Officer Hunter Foster then fired multiple rounds into the car. Kohen was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at a nearby hospital. Ferrell was seriously injured. No officers suffered serious physical harm.

An independent autopsy later indicated that the fatal bullet entered Kohen from the side of the vehicle. In bodycam footage recorded outside the hospital after the śh́óóting, Foster can be heard stating that he had not seen a baby in the car.

In mid-October, a compilation of surveillance and bodycam angles was first obtained and published by Darkhorse Press. That initial release included video from other officers and Walmart cameras but did not contain the body-worn camera recording of Foster, the officer identified as having fired the sH๏τs. Mississippi Department of Public Safety officials confirmed that Foster’s footage existed and formed part of the official investigation. On October 22, after first allowing the Wiley family to view the material, the department publicly released Foster’s bodycam video along with additional synchronized angles from the scene.

Just days before the video releases, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office announced that it had completed its review and determined the use of force was justified. No criminal charges would be brought against the officer. The broader investigation, however, remains open, leaving open the possibility of charges related to the adults in the vehicle. Neither Vellesiya Wiley nor Latoya Ferrell had been charged as of late October. Wiley has publicly disputed claims that the group was engaged in shoplifting.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the Wiley family, and family members stated after reviewing the newly released footage that it reinforced their position that the śh́óóting was not justified. The case has generated sustained public attention and criticism. Prior reporting had detailed earlier allegations of misconduct involving Foster at previous departments, as well as internal problems within the Senatobia Police Department that later led to the dismissal of the former police chief over racist text messages.

Official accounts have described the original call as involving a possible shoplifting incident, though the precise sequence of what officers were investigating when they left the security room has remained a point of discussion. The release of the full available video has intensified scrutiny of both the circumstances of the śh́óóting and the state’s determination that the officer’s actions met the legal standard for justified use of force.

As of late October 2026, the Wiley family’s legal team continues to review the materials, and the case remains under active discussion in Mississippi and nationally.
