“WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME”: 20-YEAR-OLD PILOT NATHALIA FILGUEIRAS AMONG NINE KILLED IN DEVASTATING FLORIDA JET 𝔠r𝘢sh
A 20-year-old pilot who had dreamed of flying since childhood was among nine people killed when a private jet crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras was serving as co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 traveling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when the aircraft went down near Greenacres, approximately seven miles southwest of West Palm Beach.
Her family confirmed her identity following the devastating 𝔠r𝘢sh. For those who knew her, Nathalia was a young woman whose passion for aviation had shaped her life from an early age.
A DREAM THAT BEGAN IN CHILDHOOD
Nathalia’s love of flying began when she was just a little girl. Her father, Allan Filgueiras, was a recreational pilot, and she often accompanied him to airports to watch aircraft take off and land.
As she grew older, her fascination with aviation developed into a clear ambition. By around age 12, she had already told her mother that she wanted to become a professional pilot.
At just 17, while still in high school, Nathalia earned her private pilot’s license — before she had even obtained her driver’s license.
She attended West Boca Raton High School in Florida, where she participated in an aviation program that helped support her journey into flying.
Her mother, Camila Corteleti, recalled how much her daughter loved being in the air.
“She loved the freedom. It was completely different seeing the world from the top,” her mother said, describing the passion that had driven Nathalia since childhood.
By the time of the 𝔠r𝘢sh, Nathalia had accumulated more than 1,300 flight hours and had obtained her commercial pilot’s license. She had been working professionally as a pilot for Upper Jets, a private charter company based in Fort Lauderdale.
At only 20 years old, she had already turned a childhood dream into a career.
THE FINAL MOMENTS BEFORE THE 𝔠r𝘢sh
The Learjet 60 departed Austin, Texas, bound for the Bahamas on Sunday afternoon.
According to air traffic control communications, the crew encountered challenging weather conditions while flying at approximately 35,000 feet.
The pilots reported ice accumulating on the aircraft and moderate turbulence. They initially indicated that the icing was manageable, but conditions soon became more concerning.
The crew also reported precipitation and requested permission to climb to approximately 37,000 feet in an effort to find smoother conditions.
Shortly afterward, an emergency unfolded.
Air traffic control recordings captured a series of increasingly urgent transmissions as the aircraft began losing altitude at an extraordinary rate.
The crew declared a mayday, reporting that the jet was descending at approximately 10,000 feet per minute. Subsequent communications indicated that the descent had accelerated to around 20,000 feet per minute.
One of the most chilling transmissions included the warning:
“We’re going to 𝔠r𝘢sh into the ground.”
The final seconds of the recording included the words, “Holy f***, we’re out of time.”
The exchange lasted only a short period before communication with the aircraft ended.
Although a female voice can be heard in the recordings, authorities have not officially established which crew member was speaking. The words should therefore not be attributed directly to Nathalia without further confirmation.
A DEVASTATING 𝔠r𝘢sh IN A FLORIDA NEIGHBORHOOD
At approximately 12:50 p.m. local time, the Learjet 60 crashed in Greenacres, in Palm Beach County.
The aircraft struck the ground near a mobile home community, creating a massive fireball and leaving a large crater in the roadway. Debris was scattered across the surrounding area, while thick smoke rose above the 𝔠r𝘢sh site.
Video footage recorded by people nearby captured the terrifying moment the aircraft descended and exploded upon impact.
All nine people aboard — two crew members and seven passengers — were killed.
The 𝔠r𝘢sh also prompted an emergency response throughout the neighborhood. Approximately 600 residents of the nearby mobile home community were evacuated as authorities worked to secure the area.
Officials reported that no one on the ground was killed in the incident.
NINE LIVES LOST
The victims included Nathalia and technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, as well as Anita Maria Cetina, who helped care for the children.
The other passengers identified in subsequent reporting included Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The ninth victim was the other flight crew member, whose identity had not yet been publicly established in the initial reports.
The tᩚraɢedy has left families and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss.
For Nathalia’s family, the loss is especially heartbreaking: a daughter who had worked toward her dream for years, earned her wings as a teenager and was only beginning her professional journey.
INVESTIGATORS SEARCH FOR ANSWERS
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the 𝔠r𝘢sh.
Weather conditions, including icing, turbulence and the possibility of a powerful storm system, are among the issues investigators are examining.
The NTSB has emphasized that the cause has not yet been determined. Investigators are also examining the aircraft’s wreckage and whether it began breaking apart before hitting the ground.
The crew’s final communications may provide important clues, but investigators must examine all available evidence before reaching a conclusion.
For now, many questions remain unanswered.
A YOUNG LIFE AND A DREAM THAT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
Nathalia Filgueiras was only 20 years old. She had spent much of her young life looking toward the sky, working toward a future that she had imagined since childhood.
She earned her first pilot’s license at 17, built more than 1,300 hours of flight experience and began pursuing the career she loved.
Her story is now part of a heartbreaking tᩚraɢedy that claimed nine lives in Florida.
Behind the headlines and the frightening recordings is a family grieving a daughter, a young woman whose dreams and future were cut tragically short.
May Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras and all those who lost their lives in the 𝔠r𝘢sh rest in peace.
