Since 2013 Abby and Brittany Hensel have reported each weekday to Sunnyside Elementary in New Brighton Minnesota where they instruct fifth-grade students as a single coordinated teaching unit earning one salary because as they explained in earlier interviews they perform the work of one person. Born in New Germany Minnesota the twins graduated high school in 2008 and earned education degrees from Bethel University before beginning their classroom careers. Students and colleagues describe two distinct personalities and teaching styles operating within the same body with Abby managing certain instructional segments while Brittany handles others their seamless coordination of movement and speech the product of years of practice that began in infancy.

They have long emphasized that the most remarkable aspect of their lives is how ordinary they are a point reinforced by the fact that their students primarily know them as demanding yet engaging teachers rather than as medical curiosities. The 2012 TLC series Abby & Brittany offered a limited window into their post-college ambitions including shopping dating attempts and career goals yet after the show ended they deliberately stepped back from continuous media exposure. Occasional public sightings including the 2025 pH๏τographs of them with a newborn car seat near the school itself have briefly returned attention to their workplace but colleagues have offered only limited observations noting that the sisters appeared tired yet pleased during the brief visit.

Their ability to drive is managed by each sister holding a separate license with Abby controlling the accelerator and brake while Brittany manages the turn signals and both contributing to steering an arrangement that mirrors the division of labor they apply in the classroom. Parents of their students have generally accepted the arrangement without controversy focusing on academic outcomes rather than the teachers’ physical configuration. In a media landscape that still treats their existence as exceptional the daily reality at Sunnyside Elementary appears to be one of routine lesson plans staff meetings and parent conferences.

As of late 2026 the twins remain employed at the same school continuing the low-profile professional life they established more than a decade ago. Their presence in the classroom stands as proof of human adaptability and of two educators who have successfully integrated a shared body into the ordinary demands of public-school teaching.
