“WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME”: THE FINAL WORDS OF 20-YEAR-OLD CO-PILOT NATHALIA FILGUEIRAS BEFORE THE diᩚadℓy FLORIDA JET 𝔠r𝘢sh
The young Brazilian-born pilot had dreamed of flying since childhood. Just three years after earning her private pilot’s license at 17, she was among nine people aboard a Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida.
A promising young pilot with a passion for aviation and a future that seemed full of possibilities is being remembered after losing her life in a devastating private jet 𝔠r𝘢sh in South Florida.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, was identified by her family as the co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, November 1, 2026. All nine people aboard the aircraft were killed.
The final moments of the flight were marked by increasingly urgent communications with air traffic control. The crew reported icing, moderate turbulence and precipitation before declaring an emergency as the aircraft began a rapid and uncontrolled descent.
For Nathalia’s family, the tᩚraɢedy represents the loss of a young woman who had pursued her dream of becoming a pilot from an exceptionally early age.
A FLIGHT THAT ENDED IN tᩚraɢedy
The Learjet 60 departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, bound for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft crashed at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time near the Cresthaven area of Greenacres, in Palm Beach County.
The aircraft went down near Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, in a residential area.
The impact caused a massive fire and left a crater at the 𝔠r𝘢sh site. Emergency crews and law enforcement officers rushed to the scene as authorities closed nearby roads and began investigating.
All nine occupants aboard the aircraft lost their lives. Officials initially reported no confirmed fatalities among people on the ground.
The incident also affected hundreds of nearby residents, with approximately 600 people from a neighboring mobile-home community facing displacement while authorities secured the area.
THE FINAL RADIO CALLS
In the minutes before the 𝔠r𝘢sh, the flight crew contacted air traffic controllers to report challenging weather conditions.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the pilots reported light icing and moderate turbulence while flying at approximately 35,000 feet.
The crew also reported precipitation and requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet in an effort to find more favorable conditions.
Air traffic control approved the request.
However, less than 30 seconds later, the aircraft began descending rapidly.
The crew issued a Mayday distress call and reported that the aircraft was experiencing an overspeed condition.
As the situation deteriorated, communications became increasingly urgent. The pilots described the aircraft’s rapid descent and warned that they were going to 𝔠r𝘢sh into the ground.
The final transmission has been widely described in reports as a desperate indication that the crew was running out of time.
Investigators are examining the aircraft’s flight data, weather conditions and physical evidence to establish exactly what happened during those final moments.
The precise cause of the 𝔠r𝘢sh has not yet been determined.
SHE EARNED HER PILOT’S LICENSE AT JUST 17
Long before the tragic flight, Nathalia had already made headlines for achieving something remarkable at an age when many teenagers were still learning to drive.
In October 2023, local media outlet CBS12 featured her after she obtained her private pilot’s license at just 17 years old.
At the time, she had already accumulated approximately 88 flight hours.
She proudly spoke about the unusual achievement, even joking about being able to fly before obtaining her driver’s license.
“People say, ‘Oh, you can’t drive,’ and I say, ‘Yes, but I can fly,’” she told CBS12.
Her confidence and enthusiasm reflected how deeply aviation had become part of her identity.
For Nathalia, flying was not simply a hobby. It was a dream she had been working toward for years.
A DREAM THAT BEGAN WITH HER FATHER
Nathalia’s interest in aviation developed after her father began flying recreationally in 2018.
Watching him in the air sparked something in her.
By 2020, she had already enrolled in aviation ground-school courses, determined to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to become a professional pilot.
While many young people were still deciding what they wanted to do with their lives, Nathalia was already taking concrete steps toward her future.
Her early achievements demonstrated determination, discipline and a genuine love for flying.
Her family and those who knew her are now left remembering a young woman whose ambitions had taken her far beyond what most people her age could imagine.
NINE LIVES LOST IN ONE DEVASTATING 𝔠r𝘢sh
As investigators work to establish what happened, more information has emerged about the other people aboard the aircraft.
Among the nine victims were:
- Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20 – the co-pilot.
- Jeff Gregory, 55 – the pilot.
- Adam Robinson – an entrepreneur from Austin, Texas.
- Helen Sharp – Adam’s wife.
- Emma Robinson, 4 – their young daughter.
- Charlie Robinson, 2 – their young son.
- Anita Maria Cetina – the family’s nanny.
- Rachael Reed – a passenger aboard the aircraft.
- Charmi Fehr – another passenger.
The Robinson family was traveling with their two young children when the aircraft crashed.
Their deaths have added another heartbreaking dimension to an already devastating tᩚraɢedy. Behind the headlines were parents, children, friends and loved ones whose lives were connected in ways that can never be replaced.
INVESTIGATORS SEARCH FOR ANSWERS
The NTSB is leading the investigation with assistance from the FAA.
During an update on November 2, investigators said weather conditions, including icing, turbulence and precipitation, were important areas of focus.
More recently, investigators reported finding pieces of the aircraft’s left elevator, a component that helps control the aircraft’s pitch, between approximately 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the 𝔠r𝘢sh site.
The discovery raised questions about whether parts of the aircraft separated while it was still airborne.
However, investigators have cautioned that they have not established whether the separation contributed to the 𝔠r𝘢sh or occurred as a result of other forces during the aircraft’s descent.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no definitive cause has been announced.
A YOUNG LIFE AND A DREAM REMEMBERED
For Nathalia’s family, the loss is immeasurable.
At only 20, she had already achieved a milestone many aspiring pilots spend years working toward. She had a passion, a goal and a future she was determined to build.
Her story is a reminder that behind every aviation tᩚraɢedy are individual lives, personal dreams and families whose worlds are changed forever.
As the investigation continues, the nine people aboard the Learjet 60 deserve to be remembered not only for the way their lives ended, but also for the people they were and the memories they left behind.
May Nathalia, the other eight victims and everyone affected by this tᩚraɢedy be remembered with compassion.
Rest in peace.
