TR@GEDY ON THE FOOTBALL PITCH: 30-YEAR-OLD SPANISH STRIKER JESÚS DE MIGUEL diᩚєs AFTER COLLISION WITH GOALKEEPER DURING MATCH

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, SPAIN — November 5, 2026

The football world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who died at just 30 years old after suffering a devastating collision during a match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra.

What began as an ordinary football match quickly turned into a medical emergency that left players, coaches and thousands of supporters in shock.

De Miguel passed away at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife, one day after the incident.

His dєatᩚh was confirmed by his club, CD Tenerife, in an emotional statement that sent shockwaves throughout Spanish football.

THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED

The incident occurred on Monday, November 2, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra was approaching its final moments, with the score tied at 2–2.

During stoppage time, De Miguel ran forward to challenge for a long ball as Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his goal to clear it.

The two players collided, and Owono’s knee struck De Miguel during the challenge.

The impact was extremely serious.

De Miguel immediately collapsed onto the pitch and lost consciousness.

Players from both teams quickly realised something was terribly wrong. Several rushed toward him while others urgently called for medical assistance.

The atmosphere inside the stadium changed completely. Supporters watched in disbelief as medical personnel hurried onto the field.

Medical staff immediately began treating De Miguel on the pitch.

He suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and required emergency resuscitation.

Medical professionals continued their efforts before transferring him by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

Doctors managed to restore his pulse during the emergency treatment, and he was admitted to intensive care.

Initially, the club reported that his condition was stable despite the seriousness of his injuries.

However, the situation deteriorated during the night.

In the early hours of Tuesday, CD Tenerife announced that his neurological condition had worsened.

Then came the devastating confirmation.

At 8 a.m. on November 3, Jesús de Miguel passed away, despite the efforts of the medical teams who had been fighting to save him.

The match was officially abandoned following the incident, allowing emergency personnel to focus entirely on his treatment.

Following the announcement, CD Tenerife published an emotional tribute to its player.

The club expressed its profound sadness, saying that there were no words capable of comforting his devastated family, friends, teammates and supporters.

The statement also thanked everyone who had offered messages of support during the difficult hours following the incident.

FC Andorra also shared a message of condolence, expressing sympathy for De Miguel’s loved ones and everyone connected with Tenerife.

Tributes soon arrived from across the football world.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid were among the clubs expressing their condolences.

The Spanish Football Federation also announced tributes in his memory, while other football events were affected by the tᩚraɢedy.

For many supporters, the news was almost impossible to comprehend. A player who had been competing just hours earlier was suddenly gone.

A CAREER THAT WAS STILL DEVELOPING

Jesús de Miguel Alameda was born in Madrid in 1996 and had built his career through Spanish professional football.

Before joining CD Tenerife ahead of the 2025–26 season, he played for Castellón.

He became an important attacking option for Tenerife and scored 11 goals during the previous season.

Known as a forward who could contribute to his team’s attacking play, he was continuing to develop his career and had many years of football potentially ahead of him.

At just 30, his journey ended far too soon.

Beyond the football pitch, he also leaves behind his wife and a young daughter, reportedly just 18 months old.

For his family, the loss is immeasurable.

AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT

Following De Miguel’s dєatᩚh, Spain’s National Police opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The case was referred to the relevant judicial authorities, who will examine the available evidence and determine whether any responsibility extends beyond the sporting context.

Owono was sent off immediately following the collision.

Authorities have not established criminal responsibility, and the investigation should not be interpreted as a finding that the goalkeeper intentionally caused harm.

The incident has nevertheless raised difficult questions about the risks players face during high-intensity challenges and the unpredictable nature of serious sporting injuries.

A FINAL GOODBYE TO A YOUNG FOOTBALLER

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of this story is knowing that Jesús de Miguel had a family waiting for him beyond the stadium.

He was not simply a footballer wearing the Tenerife shirt. He was a husband, a father and a son whose life extended far beyond the game.

His teammates will remember the player who shared the dressing room with them. Supporters will remember the striker who represented their club. His family will remember the husband and father whose presence meant far more than any goal or victory.

Football matches are usually remembered for their results, celebrations and unforgettable moments.

But this match will forever be remembered for something nobody wanted to witness.

A young player went onto the pitch to compete for his team. He never got the chance to return home.

Rest in peace, Jesús de Miguel Alameda.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife, daughter, family, friends, teammates and everyone at CD Tenerife.
