PAULINE QUIRKE’S SON SHARES EMOTIONAL UPDATE ON MUM’S DEMENTIA BATTLE: ‘EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT’

The family of beloved British actress Pauline Quirke continues to face the challenges of dementia, but her son Charlie has shared a message that offers a glimpse of the love and everyday moments they are determined to hold on to.

The Birds of a Feather star was diagnosed with dementia in 2021, at the age of 61. Her condition was made public in January 2025, when her husband, Steve Sheen, announced that she would be stepping away from acting and her professional commitments.

Since then, her family has continued to share occasional updates, offering fans a personal insight into life beyond the spotlight.

‘Có thể là hình ảnh về một hoặc nhiều người, tóc vàng, râu và mọi người đang cườiEVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT’: CHARLIE OPENS UP ABOUT HIS MOTHER

In September 2026, Charlie appeared on ITV’s Lorraine, where he spoke about his mother’s condition and the family’s efforts to support her.

When asked how Pauline was doing, he offered a reassuring update.

“Mum, she’s great. Every day is different, it’s part of our journey,” he explained.

Charlie revealed that the family continues to enjoy simple activities together, including going out for lunch and watching football.

He even joked about making his mother watch a West Ham match, showing that familiar family routines remain an important part of their lives.

“We’ve got such a close family unit that it makes it easier on our journey. But touch wood, she’s happy,” he added.

For the family, those ordinary moments have become especially meaningful.

One of the most moving aspects of Pauline’s journey is the importance of family connection.

During an earlier interview on BBC Breakfast in November 2025, Charlie spoke about how his mother still recognised her loved ones.

He recalled that whenever she saw family members, she would smile, laugh and tell them she loved them.

“My mum has always been my best friend, and dementia hasn’t changed that,” Charlie previously explained.

He also described her as happy, content and loving for as much of the day as she could give them.

Although dementia is a progressive condition, Charlie’s words showed that his relationship with his mother remains deeply important.

The family continues to cherish the moments they share, rather than allowing the uncertainty of the future to take away from the present.

A SON’S MISSION TO HELP OTHER FAMILIES

Charlie’s love for his mother has also inspired him to become involved in raising awareness and funding research into dementia.

In December 2025, he undertook a five-day fundraising trek covering approximately 140 kilometres across five counties in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The journey took him through places connected to Pauline’s life, including locations linked to her childhood, acting career and family memories.

For Charlie, the challenge was about much more than raising money.

It was an opportunity to celebrate his mother’s life while helping other families who are facing similar experiences.

He has spoken openly about the pain of knowing that there is currently no cure for dementia and the importance of supporting research.

A FAMILY HOLDING ON TO LOVE AND HOPE

Pauline Quirke has spent decades entertaining audiences through television, theatre and film.

Many viewers remember her most fondly as Sharon in the BBC sitcom Birds of a Feather, where she became a familiar face in British homes.

Today, the focus is different. Away from the cameras, her family is concentrating on supporting her, sharing time together and appreciating the moments that matter.

Charlie’s latest update offers a reminder that a dementia diagnosis does not erase the love shared between a mother and her child.

For Pauline’s family, every smile, every lunch together and every familiar family moment is something to treasure.

And as Charlie continues to support research into the condition, his message carries hope for countless other families navigating the same difficult journey.
