CALLS FOR JUSTICE GROW AFTER VIDEO SHOWS 8-YEAR-OLD ADRIAN THOMPSON SEEKING HELP BEFORE CHOKING dєatᩚh AT SCHOOL

Newly released surveillance footage has sparked public outrage and a small protest outside the Texas elementary school where Adrian died. Her parents say they are still searching for answers.

LINDALE, Texas — Calls for answers are growing after the parents of eight-year-old Adrian Sue Thompson released school surveillance footage showing their daughter desperately seeking help during a choking emergency months before her dєatᩚh.

The footage, which has attracted widespread attention online and coverage from national media outlets including Inside Edition, shows Adrian struggling during lunchtime at Velma Penny Elementary School in Lindale, Texas.

Her parents, Anna Thompson and Greg Sher, say they released the video because they believe the circumstances surrounding the emergency deserve greater scrutiny. They also hope their daughter’s story will encourage schools to improve emergency preparedness and prevent another family from experiencing the same tᩚraɢedy.

Adrian died on April 16, 2026, after choking during lunch at school the previous day. She was just eight years old.

The incident began at approximately 11:40 a.m. on April 15, when Adrian started coughing while eating in the school cafeteria.

According to reports describing the surveillance footage and investigative documents, she approached a staff member while appearing distressed and gesturing toward her throat.

The employee reportedly believed Adrian was feeling sick and directed her toward a trash can. She was then directed toward another area before eventually returning and continuing to seek assistance.

Adrian later ran through the school corridors toward the nurse’s office.

At the nurse’s office, she reportedly pointed toward her mouth and attempted to communicate what was happening. Her condition deteriorated, and her face began turning blue.

The school nurse attempted the Heimlich maneuver and used an anti-choking suction device. When Adrian collapsed and no pulse could be detected, CPR was performed.

The school principal called 911 approximately five minutes after Adrian first showed signs of distress.

Emergency responders arrived and continued lifesaving efforts before transporting her to hospital. She was later transferred to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she died in the early hours of April 16.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Adrian died from choking and classified her dєatᩚh as accidental.

After reviewing the footage, Adrian’s parents said they were deeply concerned by what they saw.

Her mother, Anna, has questioned whether staff recognised the seriousness of her daughter’s condition quickly enough and whether the emergency response was handled appropriately.

The family has also raised concerns about the equipment used during the incident. Reports based on emergency records indicated that an adult-sized mask was used during treatment, a detail Anna described as concerning given that Adrian was only eight.

The footage and the family’s concerns have prompted renewed public discussion about emergency training and the equipment available in schools.

However, the available evidence does not establish that a different response or different equipment would have changed the outcome.

Small protest held outside Adrian’s school

On October 26, a small and peaceful protest took place outside Velma Penny Elementary School.

Those attending called for justice for Adrian and greater accountability over the circumstances surrounding her dєatᩚh.

The demonstration came as the surveillance footage began receiving wider attention and more people learned about the family’s concerns.

The case has since been featured by Inside Edition, which reported on the footage and the parents’ decision to share it publicly.

Online, messages of support and calls for answers have continued to circulate, with many people using the hashtag #JusticeForAdrian.

Texas Rangers found no criminal offense

The Texas Rangers investigated Adrian’s dєatᩚh and concluded that no criminal offense had occurred in connection with the incident.

No criminal charges were filed, and the medical examiner ruled the dєatᩚh accidental.

But the official finding has not ended the family’s efforts to understand what happened.

Anna has questioned the scope of the investigation, telling KETK that she believed witnesses had not been interviewed, leaving important questions unanswered.

She has also called for changes to Texas law concerning the legal protections available to public school districts, arguing that families should have meaningful ways to seek answers when a child diᩚєs while under a school’s care.

Her calls for accountability are the family’s position and do not amount to a finding of criminal wrongdoing by school employees.

School district says safety procedures have changed

Lindale Independent School District Superintendent Stan Surratt said the district had updated safety procedures and provided additional training for staff following Adrian’s dєatᩚh.

The district has also said it is taking steps to strengthen emergency preparedness and review the equipment and procedures used during medical emergencies.

Those changes are intended to help prevent another tᩚraɢedy, but Adrian’s parents say they still want greater transparency about the events that led to their daughter’s dєatᩚh.

A little girl whose story her family wants remembered

For Anna and Greg, the pain of losing their daughter is made harder by the questions they say remain unanswered.

Adrian was a second-grade student whose life ended far too soon. Her parents say they want her story to lead to meaningful improvements so that other children can receive help as quickly as possible when an emergency occurs.

The footage has brought renewed attention to the tᩚraɢedy, but the family says its purpose is not simply to make a video go viral.

They want people to remember Adrian, understand what happened and recognise the importance of being prepared to respond when a child needs urgent help.

She was only eight years old.

And her parents say they will continue speaking out until they feel their questions have been heard.
