“These are the most difficult days of my life.” FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono has spoken publicly for the first time following the dєatᩚh of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel. The 25-year-old has now been left out of Equatorial Guinea’s upcoming international squad as the tᩚraɢedy continues to send shockwaves through the football world.
FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono has broken his silence following the heartbreaking dєatᩚh of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who passed away after a collision between the two players during a Spanish second-division match.
In a statement released through his club on Wednesday, November 4, Owono described the past few days as the most painful period of his life.
“These are the most difficult days of my life,” he said.
The goalkeeper admitted that he was struggling to find the words to describe what had happened and was finding it extremely difficult to process the loss.
“I feel enormous pain over the loss of Jesús. I think of him, his family, and everyone who loved him.”
He also acknowledged that there would be questions to address in the aftermath of the tᩚraɢedy.
“I know there will be many questions to address, and I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect.”
He concluded his statement by paying tribute to the deceased footballer.
“Rest in peace, Jesús.”
THE COLLISION THAT ENDED IN tᩚraɢedy
The incident occurred on Monday, November 2, during a match between FC Andorra and CD Tenerife in Spain’s second division.
The game was approaching its final moments when Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge for a long ball near the halfway line.
De Miguel also moved toward the ball, and the two players collided heavily.
The goalkeeper’s knee appeared to strike the Tenerife forward in the chest, leaving De Miguel unconscious on the pitch.
Medical personnel immediately rushed to assist him as players from both teams watched in distress.
De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital after emergency responders managed to restore his pulse.
Despite receiving intensive medical treatment, the 30-year-old passed away on Tuesday morning, November 3.
Owono received a red card following the collision, and the match was abandoned.
GOALKEEPER LEFT OUT OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA’S NATIONAL SQUAD
On Thursday, November 5, another major development emerged.
The Equatorial Guinea Football Federation announced that Owono would not be included in the squad for the country’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Zimbabwe.
The two fixtures are scheduled for November 12 in Bata and November 16 in Harare.
Owono, 25, has been one of Equatorial Guinea’s most established goalkeepers since his teenage years.
He has represented his country at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and played in the opening two qualifying matches for the 2027 competition in September.
His absence comes just days after the devastating incident involving De Miguel.
The federation has also publicly expressed its support for the goalkeeper, acknowledging the profound emotional distress he is experiencing.
His omission from the squad has not been announced as a disciplinary punishment, and no official statement has established that it is connected to any finding of wrongdoing.
ONLINE 𝘢bu𝘴e FORCES HIM TO STEP AWAY FROM SOCIAL MEDIA
The tᩚraɢedy has also brought an alarming wave of online hostility.
Following De Miguel’s dєatᩚh, Owono reportedly received abusive messages on social media, including comments accusing him of being responsible for the footballer’s dєatᩚh.
Some users reportedly called him a murderer.
The situation became so distressing that the goalkeeper deactivated his Instagram account on Tuesday.
His teammate Lautaro Spatz also came forward to defend him, describing Owono as a person who would never intentionally hurt another player.
Spatz acknowledged the enormous emotional burden his teammate was facing and expressed sympathy for De Miguel’s family.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for people to avoid making accusations or directing 𝘢bu𝘴e toward individuals before the circumstances have been fully examined.
POLICE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
Spanish authorities have opened an investigation into De Miguel’s dєatᩚh.
According to reports, police are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and the events that followed.
The investigation is an important step in establishing exactly what happened during the match.
However, the opening of an investigation does not mean that Owono has been found criminally responsible.
The preliminary autopsy findings identified accidental chest trauma as the cause of De Miguel’s dєatᩚh, while further medical examinations were still pending.
Authorities have not announced a final determination of criminal responsibility.
TWO FOOTBALL CLUBS UNITED IN GRIEF
Both FC Andorra and CD Tenerife have expressed their sorrow following the tᩚraɢedy.
FC Andorra has offered psychological support to members of its squad and staff who may be struggling with the emotional impact of what happened.
The club also held a moment of silence before training to remember De Miguel.
Meanwhile, Tenerife has called for sensitivity and respect toward everyone affected by the loss, including Owono.
The tᩚraɢedy has also prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the football community.
For De Miguel’s family, the loss is especially devastating. The 30-year-old leaves behind his wife, María, and their young daughter, Carla, who was born in 2025.
His remains were transported to his hometown of Navahermosa, Toledo, following judicial authorization.
A tᩚraɢedy THAT HAS CHANGED TWO FAMILIES FOREVER
For Jesús Owono, the days ahead will be marked by grief, difficult questions and an ongoing investigation.
For María and little Carla, the loss of Jesús de Miguel means facing a future without their husband and father.
Two footballers entered the pitch on Monday expecting to compete in an ordinary league match. By Tuesday morning, one of them was gone.
As investigators continue their work, the football world is left mourning a life lost and hoping that the truth surrounding the tᩚraɢedy will eventually become clear.
Rest in peace, Jesús de Miguel. May his family find strength during this difficult time.
