HER MOTHER SUPPORTED HER BIGGEST DREAM — 20-YEAR-OLD PILOT NATHALIA GADELHA FILGUEIRAS AMONG NINE KILLED IN DEVASTATING FLORIDA LEARJET 𝔠r𝘢sh

For 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, flying was never simply a job. It was a childhood dream, a passion she had carried for years and a future she worked tirelessly to build.

But on November 1, 2026, that dream came to a heartbreaking end when the Learjet 60 she was co-piloting crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, 𝘬iᩚlling all nine people aboard.

As her family struggles to comprehend the devastating loss, the memories shared by her mother, Camila Corteleti, have offered a deeply personal glimpse into the young woman behind the headlines.

A DREAM THAT BEGAN IN CHILDHOOD

Nathalia’s love of aviation began when she was around 12 years old.

Her biological father, Allan Filgueiras, was a pilot who introduced her to flying in a small aircraft. Those early experiences sparked something that would eventually shape her entire future.

Her mother remembered the moment Nathalia came home after flying with her father and announced that she wanted to become a pilot.

At first, Camila did not believe her daughter would pursue such an ambitious career.

But Nathalia was determined.

Her stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, supported her ambition, believing that if flying was what she truly wanted, she should have the opportunity to pursue it.

What began as a childhood declaration gradually became reality.

While attending West Boca Raton Community High School in Florida, Nathalia enrolled in an aviation programme that helped students pursue careers in the industry.

In 2023, at just 17 years old, she earned her private pilot’s licence.

Her achievement was extraordinary for someone so young, and her family watched with pride as she continued developing her skills.

She eventually accumulated more than 1,300 flight hours and completed the training required for her role as a Learjet co-pilot.

At the time of the 𝔠r𝘢sh, she had reportedly been working as a commercial pilot for approximately nine months.

Her ambition was to continue progressing in aviation and eventually become an airline pilot.

She was still at the beginning of the career she had worked so hard to achieve.

THE MOTHER WHO WAS PROUD — BUT ALWAYS AFRAID

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of Camila’s story is that she had always carried a fear that her daughter’s passion for flying might one day separate them.

Speaking to the New York Post after the tᩚraɢedy, she shared words that have resonated with people around the world.

“I wanted her to live her dream, but I knew that her dream was going to be the thing that would take her away from me,” Camila said.

She also recalled:

“I knew that a plane was gonna take her away from me. I always knew it, but I was so proud of her. I know she was living her dream.”

It is a heartbreaking reflection of a mother’s conflicting emotions.

She wanted her daughter to have every opportunity to succeed, even while understanding the risks associated with the profession she had chosen.

Camila never wanted Nathalia to abandon her ambitions. She wanted to see her daughter achieve everything she had imagined.

Now, those words carry a meaning no mother should ever have to confront.

THE FINAL FLIGHT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

On November 1, Nathalia was serving as co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 travelling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

There were nine people aboard, including the two pilots and seven passengers.

As the aircraft travelled through difficult weather conditions over Florida, the crew reported icing and turbulence to air traffic control.

The situation rapidly deteriorated.

Radio recordings captured the crew reporting a serious emergency as the aircraft experienced an increasingly rapid descent.

The Learjet eventually crashed in Greenacres, near West Palm Beach, erupting into flames.

All nine people aboard were killed.

Among the passengers were technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children Emma and Charlie, their nanny Ana María Ramírez Cetina, and family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

A tᩚraɢedy that began as a journey to the Bahamas ended with multiple families receiving devastating news.

HER FATHER’S PRIDE IN HER FINAL MOMENTS

In the days following the 𝔠r𝘢sh, Nathalia’s father, Allan Filgueiras, also spoke publicly about his daughter.

He revealed that he had listened to the final air traffic control recordings many times, hoping to understand what had happened.

But alongside the unbearable grief, he found himself feeling immense pride in the way Nathalia communicated during the emergency.

He described her as strong and professional, continuing to report the aircraft’s condition as the situation unfolded.

Her family has also pushed back against criticism of her young age, emphasising that she had the necessary qualifications, training and experience for her position.

Her former flight instructor, Christopher Kirk, remembered her as a gifted and enthusiastic aviator whose passion for flying was unmistakable.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 𝔠r𝘢sh.

Investigators are examining the aircraft wreckage, flight data and weather conditions to establish what caused the Learjet to lose control.

Although icing, turbulence and the aircraft’s rapid descent have emerged as important elements of the investigation, officials have not yet determined the definitive cause.

For Nathalia’s family, however, no investigation can change the reality of their loss.

She was a daughter, a sister and a young woman who had worked incredibly hard to follow her dreams.

Her mother had supported her ambitions, even when those ambitions frightened her.

Her father had helped introduce her to the skies, and her family had watched proudly as she transformed a childhood dream into a professional career.

At just 20 years old, Nathalia had so much more she wanted to accomplish.

She never got the chance to see where that journey would take her.

But the memories of her determination, courage and love of aviation will remain with those who knew her.

She followed the dream she had carried since childhood. And her family will forever remember the girl who wanted nothing more than to fly.

May Nathalia and all eight other victims rest in peace.
