Escaped 𝘬iᩚller’s Strange Apology Note Raises New Questions After 10-Day Manhunt

A convicted murderer who escaped from a Tennessee prison reportedly left behind an unexpected handwritten apology after taking a truck from a farm, adding another unusual detail to a manhunt that lasted more than a week.
Jacob Morley, 28, was serving a life sentence at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tennessee when he escaped on October 25, 2026. Authorities said he slipped through a fence before fleeing the prison grounds.
Investigators believe Morley eventually made his way to a farm near Marion, Illinois, where he spent time hiding in a shed periodically used by hunters. According to Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich, evidence at the property suggested Morley drank beer and prepared garlic bread and other food while staying there.
The sheriff also said Morley allegedly stole a truck from the property and left a handwritten note apologizing to its owner. Investigators believe he may have walked approximately three miles to reach the farm after abandoning another vehicle.
Morley is also suspected of taking clothes and three firearms from the property: two rifles and a shotgun. The weapons were later recovered from the truck in which authorities found him.
His escape came to an end on November 3 near Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities used roadside surveillance cameras and a helicopter to track his movements before the vehicle became stuck in mud. He was reportedly cooperative when taken into custody.
Despite his capture, investigators have been left with questions about how he managed to travel hundreds of miles and avoid detection for so long. Sheriff Diederich said there was no evidence that anyone had helped Morley during his time on the run.
Morley was convicted in 2022 of 𝘬iᩚlling his co-worker, Cody Birchfield. Birchfield’s body was discovered inside a box beneath Morley’s home after he had been missing for several weeks.
Morley now faces further legal consequences connected to his escape and alleged thefts. Federal charges have also been filed, including unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

For investigators, the handwritten apology is just one of the unusual clues left behind during a disappearance that stretched across multiple states. The full explanation of how Morley evaded authorities for more than a week remains unclear.
