Florida Bank šhσσtєr’s Chilling Motive Revealed After $2,500 Debt Dispute Ends in diᩚadℓy Rampage

A ɠυɳɱαɳ who stormed a Citibank office campus in Florida and killed a female employee before being shot dead by a security guard was allegedly enraged over a debt of just $2,500, authorities have revealed.

Jacob Pearson, 35, of Orlando, allegedly targeted the bank after receiving a court summons over an unpaid credit card balance. According to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, Pearson was furious about the legal proceedings and contacted an attorney’s office working with Citibank on the morning of November 4.

During the call, Pearson allegedly threatened to bring an AR-15 rifle and a bulletproof vest to the company’s offices unless the court case was canceled.

Court records reportedly showed that he owed $2,556.40 on a Citibank-issued credit card and had been summoned to attend a pretrial conference in February.

The attorney’s office alerted Citibank’s security department, which contacted police in Orlando. Officers attempted to locate Pearson at his home, but he had already left. His wife reportedly told police that he appeared angry.

Authorities then alerted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office about the threat.

But before the warning could prevent the attack, Pearson allegedly drove his vehicle through a gate at the bank’s Sabal Center campus in the Tampa area shortly after noon.

He exited the vehicle carrying a rifle and approached the first employee he encountered: 41-year-old Leanne Selman.

According to the sheriff, Pearson shot Selman three times before his rifle malfunctioned. He then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun and shot her again as she attempted to crawl away.

Selman was pronounced dead at the scene. She had worked for Citibank for nine years and was described by the company as a valued colleague.

Pearson then entered the office building’s cafeteria, where he encountered John Fraley, a 38-year-old armed security guard and Marine Corps veteran who also served as a senior security executive at Citibank.

The two exchanged gunfire, and Fraley struck Pearson five times. The suspect was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Chronister praised Fraley’s actions, saying his intervention likely prevented further casualties. More than 3,200 people were on the campus when the śh́óóting began.

Four other people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All were later released.

Investigators said Pearson had no known criminal record. Authorities also said Selman had no prior connection to him, describing her as someone who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The śh́óóting has left Selman’s family and colleagues devastated, while raising questions about how a dispute over a relatively small financial debt escalated into a diᩚadℓy attack.

The investigation remains ongoing.
