“THE GRIEF JUST HITS YOU” — LINDSEY BURROW’S HEARTBREAKING LIFE WITHOUT RUGBY LEGEND ROB TWO YEARS AFTER HIS dєatᩚh
More than two years after losing her husband to motor neurone disease, Lindsey Burrow has opened up about the moments when grief suddenly overwhelms her — while raising their three children and keeping Rob’s extraordinary legacy alive.

For Lindsey Burrow, grief does not always arrive on anniversaries or during the biggest milestones.

Sometimes, it comes unexpectedly — while she is driving, when a familiar song begins to play, or when an ordinary family moment reminds her of the husband who should still be there.

More than two years after rugby league legend Rob Burrow passed away, Lindsey has spoken movingly about learning to live without the man she had loved since they were teenagers.

Her words offer a deeply personal glimpse into life after loss, and the challenge of helping their three children grow up without their beloved father.
“YOU CAN HAVE GOOD AND BAD DAYS”
Rob Burrow died in June 2024, aged just 41, following a courageous battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

The former Leeds Rhinos star had been diagnosed in December 2019, barely two years after retiring from professional rugby league.

His diagnosis changed the lives of Lindsey and their family forever.

Yet throughout his illness, Rob became a powerful voice for people living with MND, raising awareness and helping inspire millions of pounds in fundraising.

In a new interview published in October 2026, Lindsey reflected on the reality of continuing her life after losing the person who had been beside her for so much of it.
“I made Rob a promise that we’d keep living life to the full,” she explained. “And we’re doing that.

But you have good and bad days.”
She described how grief can suddenly take hold when a song reminds her of Rob.
“You can be driving, a song comes on that reminds you of Rob and the grief just hits you,” she said.

The simple observation captures something many bereaved people recognise: even when life moves forward, memories can bring the pain rushing back without warning.

RAISING THREE CHILDREN WITHOUT THEIR DAD
Lindsey and Rob shared three children: Macy, Maya and Jackson.

For Lindsey, helping them navigate life without their father has become one of her greatest priorities.

She said their children have helped her more than they will ever know, praising their strength and the way they continue to live their lives despite missing their dad terribly.

“They’re the reason I wake up with a smile in the morning,” she said.

Rob had been a devoted father who treasured time with his children.

Lindsey recalled how he would leave social events early because he wanted to get home to his family.
“He was the best dad I could have ever wished for,” she said.

Those memories make his absence particularly painful during everyday moments.

Lindsey explained that seeing other fathers watching football with their children can remind her that Rob should still be there with their son, Jackson.

For the family, moving forward does not mean leaving Rob behind.

They continue to talk about him, share memories and find ways to keep him part of their daily lives.

THE LITTLE SIGNS THAT BRING HER COMFORT
Although Rob is no longer physically present, Lindsey says she still feels connected to him.

One memory that has stayed with her is finding a small white feather beside his chair the day after he passed away.

Since then, she says, more feathers have appeared at moments that feel significant to her.

“Is that a coincidence?

I like to think not,” she reflected.

She has also spoken about a robin that regularly visits the family garden, as well as a butterfly that Rob’s mother has noticed.

These moments bring Lindsey comfort.

Whether understood as coincidence or personal symbolism, they have become gentle reminders of the husband and father whose presence continues to shape their family.

At home, memory jars give the children opportunities to revisit special moments and remember their dad.

Their grief remains part of their lives, but so does the love and the legacy he left behind.
“NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE”
Lindsey and Rob were married for 17 years and had been together since their teenage years.

Their relationship began long before Rob became a household name in rugby league, and Lindsey stood beside him throughout his illness.

Asked whether she could imagine finding love again, Lindsey gave a firm answer.

“Rob was the love of my life.

No one will ever take his place.”
She also spoke about how grateful she was to have shared her life with him, despite the heartbreak of losing him so young.

Her words were not simply about remembering a husband.

They reflected a lifetime of shared experiences, a family built together and a bond that remains meaningful even after dєatᩚh.

TURNING HEARTBREAK INTO A LASTING LEGACY
Since Rob’s diagnosis, the Burrow family has helped bring national attention to MND and the challenges faced by those living with the condition.

Lindsey played an important role in the development of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds, which opened in November 2025.

The centre represents part of the vision Rob championed: improving care and support for people affected by MND and helping families facing the same devastating diagnosis.

Lindsey has spoken with pride about the project, while acknowledging how much she wishes Rob could have been there to see its impact.

His legacy now reaches far beyond the rugby field.

It lives on through the centre, the fundraising efforts inspired by his story and the families who may benefit from greater awareness and improved support.

A PROMISE TO KEEP LIVING
Lindsey has never suggested that life without Rob is easy.

There are difficult days, painful reminders and milestones that make his absence impossible to ignore.

Yet she continues to focus on raising their children, preserving their memories and honouring the promise she made to her husband.

Her latest interview does not announce a new medical diagnosis.

Instead, it reveals the continuing emotional reality of bereavement — and the quiet determination required to keep going after losing someone so deeply loved.

Rob once encouraged people to be brave, face their personal battles and remember that every day is precious.

For Lindsey and their children, that message remains part of the life they are building without him.

Rob Burrow may be gone, but the love he gave his family — and the difference he made to countless others — continues to live on.
