FLORIDA MOTHER ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY LEAVING FOUR CHILDREN HOME ALONE DURING LAS VEGAS TRIP
A 911 call from a child led deputies to a troubling discovery: four siblings, ages 9 to 14, were allegedly left without overnight adult supervision while their mother was away on a work trip.
A Florida mother, identified by authorities as 50-year-old Irene Miller, was arrested after investigators said she left her four children at their home in Kissimmee while traveling to Las Vegas.
The incident came to light on the evening of October 21, 2026, when one of the children called 911 to report that a younger sibling had been injured after a dumbbell fell on his head.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the family’s home on Parkway Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. and found all four children — ages 9, 11, 12 and 14 — without an adult present.
A child’s emergency call brought deputies to the home
The injured child, a 9-year-old boy, was taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment. He was later released, according to authorities.
Although the boy’s injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, the incident prompted investigators to examine the circumstances in which the children had been left alone.
Deputies contacted Miller by phone. She reportedly told them she was in Las Vegas for work and planned to return to Florida on October 23.
Investigators determined that she had left Florida on October 18, leaving the children without an adult staying in the home overnight.
The babysitting arrangement under investigation
According to the sheriff’s office, Miller told deputies she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to help the children prepare for school in the mornings and check on them after school.
However, the babysitter was not required to remain overnight.
Authorities said the arrangement meant the children were left without adult supervision during those hours. Investigators subsequently contacted the children’s father, who came to collect all four siblings and take them to his home.
Deputies were waiting when she returned to Florida
On October 23, detectives met Miller as she arrived back in Florida from Las Vegas.
She was taken into custody and booked into jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Miller has since been released on bond, according to reports. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said the agency takes child neglect seriously and would investigate cases in which parents allegedly fail to provide appropriate supervision and care.
A case raising questions about children’s safety
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of ensuring that children have appropriate adult supervision, particularly when a parent must travel away from home for several days.
Even when arrangements are made for help before and after school, the absence of an adult overnight can leave children vulnerable when unexpected emergencies arise.
In this case, it was one of the children who called for help after the younger boy was injured.
The investigation has resulted in four criminal charges against Miller. The outcome will depend on the legal proceedings that follow.
For now, the children have been taken to their father’s home, while their mother faces the allegations against her.
🤍 The case serves as a sobering reminder that children need reliable adult care and protection — especially when an emergency happens unexpectedly.
