Florida Mother Arrested After Allegedly Leaving Four Children Home Alone During Las Vegas Work Trip
A 50-year-old photographer faces four child neglect charges after authorities found her children, aged 9 to 14, without adult supervision. The case came to light when one child called 911 after her younger brother was reportedly injured by a falling dumbbell.
A Florida mother was arrested at an airport after allegedly leaving her four children home alone for several days while traveling to Las Vegas for work, according to authorities.
Irene Miller, 50, was taken into custody on October 23, 2026, after returning to Florida. She was subsequently charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
A 911 Call Brought Deputies to the Home
The incident came to light on the evening of October 21, when one of the children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her nine-year-old brother’s head.
Deputies responding to the family’s home in Kissimmee, Osceola County, found four children, ages 9, 11, 12 and 14, without an adult present, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
The injured boy was taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
Mother Was Reportedly in Nevada
Investigators contacted Miller by phone and were told that she had traveled to Las Vegas on October 18 for work and planned to return on October 23.
Miller reportedly told deputies that she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to visit the home in the mornings, help the children prepare for school and check on them after school.
However, authorities said the babysitter was not required to stay overnight, meaning the children were left without adult supervision during the evenings.
Following the discovery, the children’s father was contacted and agreed to take all four siblings into his care.
Arrested After Returning to Florida
Detectives arranged to meet Miller when she returned from Las Vegas. On the morning of October 23, officers approached her as she exited her flight and took her into custody. Body-camera footage reportedly captured the airport arrest.
Miller was booked into Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. ABC News reported that jail records later showed she had been released. Her plea and any response from legal counsel were not immediately clear in the reports reviewed.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said authorities would investigate cases involving children who were not properly supervised or cared for.
The investigation highlights the importance of ensuring children have appropriate adult supervision and care, particularly when a parent must travel for an extended period.
The charges are allegations, and Miller is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
