Two Cane Corsos 𝘬iᩚll Beloved Family Dog as Oakland Residents Report More Attacks

An Oakland woman is mourning the loss of her beloved 12-year-old dog after two large Cane Corsos allegedly mauled the pet to dєatᩚh at a local park. The incident has sparked growing concern among residents who say similar attacks involving dogs and people have occurred across the Bay Area.
Tomiquia Moss was walking her dog, Pepper, at Lakeside Park near Lake Merritt on October 23, 2026, when she saw two large dogs jump over nearby fences and charge toward them.
Moss told SFGATE that both dogs attacked Pepper, leaving her struggling to free her pet as she screamed for help. A park maintenance worker and the dogs’ owner eventually helped bring the attack under control.
Pepper was rushed to a veterinary hospital with severe injuries, including collapsed ribs and breathing difficulties. Despite efforts to save her, the elderly dog died the following morning.
The loss has devastated Moss and her family. Her daughter, Torii Lola, was speaking with her mother on the phone when the attack occurred and recalled hearing her mother suddenly scream for help.
After Pepper’s dєatᩚh, the family began asking the public for information. Moss and Lola said other residents contacted them with accounts of similar encounters involving two Cane Corsos and an owner matching the description they had received.
One witness also described another frightening encounter involving the dogs. Video shared with SFGATE reportedly shows a man restraining one of the animals before confronting a woman who was filming him. The woman falls as the dog approaches, and the footage cuts off. The witness believes the woman may have been bitten, although the circumstances have not been independently confirmed.
Reports circulating among Bay Area residents describe other alleged attacks at parks in Oakland and Berkeley. However, not all of these accounts have been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly confirmed that every reported incident involved the same dogs.
The Oakland Police Department confirmed that it is investigating a series of incidents involving dogs injuring people and pets around local parks. Officials declined to provide further details because the investigation remains ongoing.

Moss has said that her family is struggling to grieve while the dogs involved have reportedly not been located. They hope that raising awareness will help authorities identify those responsible and prevent further attacks.
For the family, the focus remains on Pepper, who had been part of their lives for 12 years. Their loss has become a rallying point for residents calling for greater accountability when dangerous dog attacks are reported.
