Kentucky doctor who left baby granddaughter in hot car to die won’t be indicted, grand jury decides

A grand jury declined to indict a Kentucky doctor who allegedly forgot her 10-month-old granddaughter in a sweltering car for hours, causing her to die.

Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker will not face a criminal trial for the tragic dєatᩚh of little Scottie Gwyn Crowell in Madisonville, Kentucky on Aug. 13, Hopkins County Attorney Hannah Kington-Jarvis announced.

The prosecutor said a grand jury met on Oct. 27, and found “insufficient probable cause to issue an indictment,” but couldn’t speak about the decision further since grand jury proceedings are secret.

“The Madisonville Police Department conducted a thorough and objective investigation. The Commonwealth waited to present this case to the Grand Jury until all relevant evidence was available for the Grand Jury to consider,” Kington-Jarvis said in a release.

Fazenbaker, 61, allegedly picked up Crowell to bring her to daycare on her way to work at Owensboro Health Multicare, but forgot the baby in the back of her car as temperatures rose to 95 degrees outside and as high as 115 inside the vehicle.

After the baby’s father didn’t find the child at daycare later that day, Crowell’s mother, who is Fazenbaker’s daughter, called the grandma to ask what happened.

Fazenbaker ran out to her car around 4 p.m. to find the little girl unresponsive. She was unable to be revived by first responders.

Kington-Jarvis said Crowell’s parents, Sydni and Micah Crowell, were both consulted during the probe.

“I would ask that you keep the infant’s parents and family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve and process this unimaginable loss,” the prosecutor said.
