15-YEAR-OLD JAVITS FRIMPONG DREAMED OF BECOMING A DOCTOR — NOW HIS FATHER IS LEFT MOURNING THE FUTURE HE WILL NEVER HAVE

The teenager had moved from Ghana to New York to build a better life with his father. But on his way to school in the Bronx, his life was cut short in a śh́óóting that remains under investigation.

A 15-year-old boy who dreamed of becoming a doctor was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, leaving his father heartbroken over a future that will never come.

Javits Frimpong had moved from Ghana to New York in 2025 to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, and begin building a new life. His family hoped the move would give him the opportunity to pursue his education and achieve his dreams.

Instead, on the morning of October 29, 2026, Javits never made it to school.

According to the New York Police Department, the teenager was shot once in the abdomen shortly before 9:30 a.m. near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont section of the Bronx.

Officers responding to the scene rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Surveillance footage obtained by local media reportedly showed Javits running along the street as another person, dressed in dark clothing, appeared to chase him.

He ran for approximately a block before collapsing.

Investigators are searching for three people believed to be connected to the śh́óóting. Reports said they were last seen wearing dark clothing and blue surgical masks.

As of the latest reports, no arrests had been announced, and police had not publicly established a motive for the 𝘬iᩚlling.

In the days before the śh́óóting, Thomas said his son had told him that another student repeatedly bothered him during lunchtime at school.

According to the grieving father, Javits had reported the problem several times.

“He said, ‘Dad, anytime I am going to lunch, that guy keep on bullying me,’” Thomas told CBS News New York. “He said, ‘I have been reporting him several times.’”

Thomas also said the school principal had contacted him a few days before the śh́óóting about an incident involving his son. He understood that two students had been suspended.

A school bus attendant separately told CBS News that he was aware of students being suspended over alleged bullying involving Javits.

However, police have not confirmed that the reported bullying was connected to the śh́óóting. Investigators have not announced a motive, and the allegations remain separate from the official investigation.

A boy with a dream of becoming a doctor

Those who spoke about Javits after his dєatᩚh remembered him as a bright, quiet student with a future ahead of him.

His father said the teenager dreamed of becoming a doctor. He had come to the United States hoping for a better future, and his family wanted to see him grow, graduate and achieve the ambitions he had carried with him.

Instead, Thomas is now left grieving the son he expected to watch build a life.

The loss has also shaken the Bronx community and members of the Ghanaian community. Neighbors, faith leaders and residents gathered for a vigil to remember Javits and call for an end to violence involving young people.

Javits’ mother remained in Ghana when her son moved to New York to live with his father.

Following the teenager’s dєatᩚh, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said President Donald Trump had agreed to help arrange an immediate visa so Javits’ mother could travel to the United States and mourn her son in person.

The White House had not immediately confirmed the reported arrangement when the news was published.

For Thomas, the loss is difficult to put into words. He had brought his son to America hoping to give him more opportunities. Now, instead of watching Javits pursue his dream of becoming a doctor, he must face a life without him.

A father should be celebrating his son’s graduation, cheering him on as he follows his dreams and watching him grow into the man he hoped to become.

Thomas will never get to see those moments.

And a 15-year-old boy who came to America with so much hope will never have the chance to discover what his future could have been.

The investigation remains ongoing.
