10-YEAR-OLD GIRL VANISHES FROM FOSTER HOME AS POLICE AND FBI INVESTIGATE CONFLICTING STORIES — SEARCH INTENSIFIES IN WEST PHILADELPHIA
A desperate search is underway for a 10-year-old girl who disappeared from her foster home in West Philadelphia, as investigators work to piece together her final known movements and resolve conflicting accounts from adults connected to the case.
Jalayshia “Malayshia” Alford, also known as “May,” was last seen on the morning of October 26, around 7:30 a.m., near the 500 block of North Simpson Street, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
More than a week later, her whereabouts remain unknown.
The case has prompted growing concern among authorities, with Philadelphia police warning that the young girl may be at special risk of harm or injury. The FBI has also joined the investigation as officers continue gathering evidence and asking residents to review their home surveillance footage.
INVESTIGATORS FACE A PUZZLING TIMELINE
One of the biggest challenges facing investigators is determining exactly what happened after Jalayshia was last seen.
Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said authorities had recovered surveillance footage showing the girl walking to and from school in the days before her disappearance.
However, investigators have not located video showing her movements after October 26.
Vanore described the timeline provided by adults connected to the child as unclear, with conflicting accounts making it difficult for investigators to establish what happened.
Police are now working to obtain additional surveillance footage and electronic evidence that could help clarify her last known movements.
“I’m very concerned. It’s been too long, and she’s very young,” Vanore said, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The investigation has involved a large team of officers, including homicide detectives with expertise in digital forensics.
Authorities have not publicly identified anyone as responsible for her disappearance.
FBI JOINS THE SEARCH AS POLICE EXAMINE THE AREA
The FBI has joined Philadelphia police in the effort to locate Jalayshia.
Agents have reportedly gone door to door, asking residents for surveillance recordings from October 22 through October 27, as well as information about anything unusual they may have witnessed.
Police have also used K-9 units and other search resources while examining areas connected to the investigation.
On Wednesday evening, November 4, a large police presence was reported near Daggett and Vine Streets in West Philadelphia.
Authorities have not disclosed what specifically brought investigators to that location. The activity is believed to be connected to the ongoing search, but officials have not confirmed its purpose.
Investigators continue to withhold certain details as they work to establish a clearer picture of the girl’s disappearance.
FAMILY MEMBERS ARE DESPERATELY SEEKING ANSWERS
Jalayshia was reportedly living with a foster family when she disappeared.
Her relatives have spoken publicly about their concern and their efforts to understand what happened.
Family members told local media that they learned of her disappearance after receiving information that she had supposedly gone to stay with her biological mother. However, relatives said her biological mother did not have custody of the child and that Jalayshia was not with her.
Her aunt, Nyfisha Allford, described the situation as heartbreaking and said the family wanted the little girl brought home safely.
Jalayshia’s grandmother, Sylvia Brown, also made an emotional appeal for help, saying the family had been posting missing-person flyers throughout Philadelphia.
The uncertainty has left relatives waiting for answers while investigators continue their work.
WHAT JALAYSHIA WAS WEARING WHEN SHE DISAPPEARED
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, Jalayshia is approximately 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs around 70 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and wears glasses.
She was last seen wearing a blue school uniform, consisting of a blue polo or button-up shirt, a blue skirt, a blue pullover and blue stockings. She may also have been wearing Crocs or black sneakers.
Police are urging anyone who may have seen her, recognized her clothing or has relevant surveillance footage to come forward.
AUTHORITIES URGE THE PUBLIC TO HELP
As the search continues, investigators are asking residents to carefully review any available home security footage that may show Jalayshia or provide information about her movements.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183 or 215-686-3184.
For a child who has now been missing for more than a week, every possible lead could matter.
Police and federal investigators continue working to answer the central questions: Where did Jalayshia go after she was last seen, what happened during the hours that followed, and where is the 10-year-old girl now?
Her family is still waiting for her safe return.
