“JUSTICE FOR MALAYSHIA”: PHILADELPHIA MOURNS 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL AFTER HER BODY IS FOUND IN NEW JERSEY — FOSTER MOTHER CHARGED WITH MURDER
Flowers, balloons and heartfelt messages have appeared in the neighborhood where 10-year-old Malayshia Alford lived. As a community grieves the loss of a little girl whose disappearance sparked an extensive search, prosecutors have announced murder charges against her foster mother.
A Philadelphia community is struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Malayshia Alford.
What began as a missing-child search in West Philadelphia ended in tᩚraɢedy after investigators discovered the young girl’s body inside a vehicle in Lindenwold, New Jersey, on November 4, 2026.
For days, relatives, neighbors, volunteers and law enforcement officers had hoped Malayshia would be found safe.
Instead, the discovery brought devastating news to a family and community that had been desperately waiting for answers.
Now, as people gather to remember her, the case has taken a significant legal turn.
On November 5, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that Malayshia’s foster mother, 36-year-old Carprice Williams, had been charged with murder and several related offenses.
A SEARCH THAT ENDED IN HEARTBREAK
Malayshia, whose full name was listed by police as Jalayshia “Malayshia” Alford, was reported missing on October 26.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the 10-year-old was last seen that morning near her home on the 500 block of North Simpson Street in West Philadelphia.
Her disappearance prompted an extensive investigation involving Philadelphia police and the FBI.
Authorities appealed to the public for information, while investigators reviewed surveillance footage and worked to establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
For nine days, loved ones and members of the community hoped the little girl would return home.
But on the night of November 4, investigators located her body inside the trunk of a vehicle at an apartment complex in Lindenwold, New Jersey.
The Gloucester-Camden-Salem Counties Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that Malayshia died from blunt force trauma. Her dєatᩚh was classified as a homicide.
FOSTER MOTHER FACES MURDER CHARGES
The following day, Philadelphia prosecutors announced charges against Carprice Williams, Malayshia’s foster mother.
The charges include murder, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of an instrument of crime, 𝘢bu𝘴e of a corpse, tampering with evidence and recklessly endangering another person.
According to prosecutors, investigators determined that Malayshia was last seen alive at her home on October 22.
Authorities also reviewed surveillance footage from October 26 that reportedly showed her body being removed from the home and placed into a vehicle.
Investigators subsequently traced the vehicle involved in the case and worked with law enforcement agencies in New Jersey to locate Malayshia.
Williams was arraigned and ordered held without bail.
The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal system.
NEW DETAILS RAISE QUESTIONS ABOUT HER CARE
As the investigation developed, additional details emerged about Malayshia’s circumstances before her disappearance.
According to a police report obtained by NBC10, juvenile witnesses described incidents of alleged physical 𝘢bu𝘴e involving Williams.
The report also detailed concerns about the child’s treatment and living conditions.
Separately, NBC10 reported that court records referenced a previous episode in which Malayshia had received hospital treatment for serious injuries while in foster care.
Those details have prompted further questions about the systems and safeguards intended to protect children in foster placements.
Philadelphia officials have not publicly answered every question surrounding the circumstances of her care.
The city’s Department of Human Services confirmed that Malayshia had been in its custody and was receiving foster care services, but said it could not provide additional information because of child-protection confidentiality requirements.
A COMMUNITY GATHERS TO REMEMBER A LITTLE GIRL
As the investigation continues, the neighborhood where Malayshia lived has become a place of remembrance.
Flowers, balloons and messages have been placed outside her home as people come together to honor her memory.
Neighbors and former teachers have spoken about the little girl they remember.
One former teacher described Malayshia as sweet and kind, saying the news of her disappearance had deeply affected her.
Community members have also organized a public march calling for justice and greater scrutiny of the systems responsible for protecting children.
Signs bearing the words “Justice for Malayshia” have become part of the public response.
The gatherings reflect a community grieving not only the loss of a child, but also the circumstances surrounding her final days.
HER FAMILY ASKS FOR PRIVACY AS THEY GRIEVE
At a November 5 news conference, Malayshia’s aunt, Marketa Brown, thanked everyone who had helped search for the little girl.
The family expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support, concern and compassion from the public.
But they also made a heartfelt request: they need privacy and space to grieve as they prepare to lay their loved one to rest.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said its CARES Unit was providing support to the family during the immediate aftermath of the tᩚraɢedy.
Officials also pledged to continue working with law enforcement partners as the investigation and prosecution move forward.
A CHILD WHO DESERVED THE CHANCE TO GROW UP
Malayshia was just 10 years old.
She should have had years ahead of her filled with school, friendships, birthdays, laughter and the ordinary joys of childhood.
Instead, her name has become part of a heartbreaking case that has shaken Philadelphia and raised difficult questions about child protection.
For those who placed flowers and messages outside her home, the memorial is a way to show that she mattered — that her life mattered, and that she will not be forgotten.
Her family now faces the unimaginable task of saying goodbye while waiting for the legal process to unfold.
And a community continues to ask for justice.
Rest in peace, sweet Malayshia. You deserved safety, love and the chance to grow up. Your memory will not be forgotten.
