Pilot Jeffrey Gregory’s Final Moments Aboard Doomed Learjet: Friends Remember a Devoted Father and Man of Faith

Captain Jeffrey Gregory, the 55-year-old pilot killed in the Florida Learjet 𝔠r𝘢sh that claimed nine lives, is being remembered by friends and family as a devoted husband, father and lifelong aviation enthusiast whose faith remained central to his life.

Gregory, from Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, was at the controls of the Learjet 60 when it crashed near Greenacres in Palm Beach County on November 1. The aircraft was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it encountered severe weather and went down, 𝘬iᩚlling everyone aboard.

For those who knew him, the tᩚraɢedy has been especially difficult because Gregory had spent much of his life pursuing the career he loved.

He had dreamed of becoming a pilot since childhood. Friends recalled him growing up in Pennsylvania, attending Limerick Chapel and developing a passion for aviation that eventually became his profession.

His career included work with East Coast Jets, a private charter company based in Allentown, where he was employed in 2016 and 2017. Federal Aviation Administration records show that he held an Airline Transport Pilot certificate and flight instructor qualifications.

Gregory was also a husband and father of three. His family described him as someone who took immense pride in his responsibilities in the cockpit but, above all, was a loving husband, devoted father and cherished son.

“Jeff loved flying and took immense pride in his responsibilities in the cockpit,” his family said in a statement. They added that words could not express the grief they were experiencing following his sudden dєatᩚh.

His colleagues have also spoken about the man behind the uniform. Thomas Noetzel, director of operations at Upper Jets, the company operating the flight, described Gregory as a close personal friend and organized a fundraiser to help support his wife and children.

Noetzel’s father, Walter, also paid tribute to the pilot, describing him as devoted, conscientious and deeply faithful, with a genuine passion for flying and a strong love for God.

One particularly haunting detail emerged from recordings of the aircraft’s final communications with air traffic control. As the jet descended, a male voice could reportedly be heard reciting the Lord’s Prayer in the background of the co-pilot’s radio transmissions.

Friends who knew Gregory believe the voice belonged to him, although authorities have not publicly confirmed its identity.

The aircraft had reported icing and turbulence before the emergency escalated. Gregory’s 20-year-old co-pilot, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, communicated with air traffic controllers as conditions worsened. She reported ice accumulation and severe turbulence before the aircraft entered a rapid descent.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the 𝔠r𝘢sh, including the possible role of weather, aircraft performance and mechanical issues. Investigators have said that parts of the aircraft may have begun separating before impact. No definitive cause has been established.

All nine people aboard died, including Gregory, Filgueiras, Texas technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, their nanny Anita Maria Cetina, and family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

As investigators work to reconstruct the aircraft’s final moments, Gregory’s loved ones are left remembering a man whose life revolved around family, faith and the skies.

For his wife and three children, the loss is immeasurable. For his friends and fellow pilots, he will be remembered not simply as the captain of a doomed flight, but as a man who had spent a lifetime doing what he loved.
