Florida Driver, 57, Caught on Camera Grabbing Teen by the Throat After Argument Over Fishing

A Florida man has been arrested after disturbing video allegedly showed him grabbing a 17-year-old boy by the neck and chasing him along a residential sidewalk following a confrontation that began over two teenagers fishing in a neighborhood pond.

Gregory McPhedrain, 57, was taken into custody on November 5 after an alleged physical confrontation involving two teenage boys in Lee County, Florida.

The incident reportedly began when McPhedrain spotted the teenagers fishing near a residential pond and contacted police over their presence. But what happened when the boys later encountered him on their way home quickly escalated into a disturbing confrontation.

Argument Escalates After Teenagers Leave Fishing Spot

The two teenagers, identified as Isaiah, 17, and Brycin, 15, said they were riding their electric bicycles home when they encountered McPhedrain driving a Subaru Crosstrek.

According to their accounts, the driver approached a stop sign at speed, prompting the boys to confront him because they believed he was about to hit them.

The teenagers alleged that McPhedrain shouted at them and threw a liquid in their direction before driving away.

But the encounter did not end there.

McPhedrain reportedly stopped his vehicle, got out and began following Isaiah along the sidewalk.

Disturbing Video Appears to Show Teen Grabbed by the Neck

Footage obtained by Gulf Coast News reportedly captured the moment McPhedrain approached Isaiah and placed his hands around the teenager’s neck.

The video appears to show the man grabbing the boy as he struggles to get away. Isaiah eventually manages to push him back, but McPhedrain allegedly moves toward him again with a raised fist.

Brycin, who recorded the confrontation, said the scene was frightening to witness.

He described the moment as appearing as though McPhedrain was attempting to force his fingers down his friend’s throat.

Isaiah later explained why he felt he needed to defend himself.

“Once I seen him get out the car and start coming at us, that’s when I felt the need to protect me and my friend’s property. And I just felt like our lives were at danger,” he told Gulf Coast News.

Arrest Comes After Parents Change Their Decision

McPhedrain was arrested on November 5 and booked into the Lee County Jail.

He faces two counts of battery and one count of cruelty toward a child.

According to reporting by the Fort Myers News-Press, the teenagers’ parents initially signed complaint withdrawals, meaning they did not want to pursue criminal charges at that stage. One parent later changed that decision, allowing the investigation to move forward.

Investigators also reviewed video recorded during the confrontation, which helped corroborate the teenagers’ accounts.

McPhedrain remained in custody following his arrest. He had not entered a plea at the time of the reports.

Teen Speaks Out After Alleged Attack

The incident has sparked outrage among people who have watched the footage, particularly because the alleged victim was a minor.

Isaiah said adults should understand the seriousness of putting their hands on children, regardless of the disagreement that came before it.

“It’s not OK to put your hands on a child in any situation, no matter what,” he said.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest and said the investigation was ongoing.

What began as a disagreement over fishing and access to a neighborhood pond has now become a criminal case involving allegations of physical violence against teenagers. Authorities will ultimately determine the facts through the legal process.

McPhedrain is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
