Family Seeks Answers After Son’s Body Was Found in Hospital Bathroom Two Weeks After Discharge

A Colorado family is demanding answers after their son, Ryan Edelen, was found dead inside a locked bathroom at HCA HealthONE Aurora hospital, 14 days after he was discharged from the emergency department.
Edelen was taken to the hospital on August 7, 2025, after he was found unresponsive near the Cherry Creek Trail in Denver. Emergency responders reportedly performed CPR and administered naloxone before he regained responsiveness.
He was discharged later that day. According to reports, he then entered a single-occupancy bathroom inside the hospital and locked the door. His body was not discovered until August 21.
The circumstances have raised serious questions for his family about how the bathroom remained unchecked for so long. Reports indicate that cleaning staff encountered the locked door but believed someone was inside and continued with their duties.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office reportedly determined that Edelen died accidentally from mixed-drug toxicity involving methamphetamine and methadone. The finding established the reported cause of dєatᩚh, but questions remain about the circumstances surrounding his hospital discharge and the delay in discovering his body.

His family is seeking accountability and answers about the procedures that allowed the situation to go unnoticed for two weeks. A small rock engraved with the word “trust,” which held personal meaning for Edelen and his mother, has also become part of the story of their loss.
The case has prompted renewed scrutiny of hospital monitoring and inspection procedures, as the family continues to seek clarity about what happened to their son.
