Doorbell Camera Captures Delivery Driver Smirking After Hurling Package at Cat on Virginia Porch

A Virginia family is demanding answers after doorbell camera footage appeared to show a delivery driver deliberately throwing a package at their pet cat before smirking and walking away.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon in Virginia Beach, where a black cat named Opie was relaxing on his family’s front porch when a delivery worker arrived.
According to the cat’s owner, Isabell Sump, the 21-pound feline was simply sitting outside when the driver approached with a package. Video captured by a Ring camera reportedly shows the worker making an underhand throw that sends the parcel toward Opie, striking the animal before the driver takes a delivery photograph and leaves.
Sump said she was shocked when she watched the footage. She described Opie as a generally calm cat who had done nothing to provoke the worker.
The incident was particularly upsetting because Opie is a black cat, and his owner worries that the animal could become a target for people who associate black cats with Halloween superstitions.
Sump said she intends to pursue criminal charges once the driver is identified. She also questioned why the worker did not simply leave the package elsewhere if he felt uncomfortable around the animal.
The delivery company, GOFO, has reportedly contacted the family and said it is investigating the driver’s conduct. The worker’s identity had not been publicly confirmed in the initial reporting.
Sump said the attention generated by the footage has been greater than she expected, but she hopes it will encourage people to treat animals with care and help prevent similar incidents.

The case has also sparked discussion about the role of doorbell cameras in documenting encounters outside private homes. Without the recording, the family might never have known what happened while Opie was resting on the porch.
For Sump, the issue goes beyond a damaged delivery or an upsetting video. She wants accountability for an incident involving a pet that was simply sitting outside its own home.
