California’s left creates a sanctuary for predators — then rages at the consequences

California’s “sanctuary” policies are smug, arrogant — and petulant.

They’re also dangerous.

State and local lefties can’t set federal immigration policy, so instead they’ll throw a wrench in it. A large one.

As The California Post reported, a new House committee report reveals the stunning number of times California’s largest cities blocked federal efforts to detain immigrant offenders upon their release from jail — letting them walk free instead.

This happened nearly 9,000 times in LA, San Francisco and San Diego, per a House Judiciary Committee report obtained exclusively by The Post.

In Los Angeles alone, local officials cooperated with just 4 of 4,177 federal requests to flag them when immigrant offenders’ releases were pending from January 2020 to June 2026. That’s a less than 0.1% compliance rate.

It’s also an egregious elevation of ideology over public safety.

The report cited immigrants with records of offenses such as homicide, kidnapping, 𝘴єxual assault, weapons violations, burglary and child 𝘢bu𝘴e.

Protecting these predators from federal custody and deportation is wrong.

Yet the political left does it, deliberately and systematically, prioritizing politics over protecting Californians from offenders with known violent histories.

If state and local Dems stood with victims of crime — immigrants included — they would scrap egregious sanctuary policies that shield not a few, but thousands of criminal offenders.

After all, this is not about federal agents chasing down otherwise law-abiding immigrants who jumped the border; this is about the offenders already in jail that the feds seek to apprehend and deport.

And therein lies the irony: If California cities would comply with ICE detainers and let the feds take custody of violent immigrants before they leave jail, then agents would not need to visit neighborhoods to find those same offenders later.

That would mean fewer confrontations, and fewer “bystander” illegal immigrants getting caught up in ICE sweeps.

Instead, the state’s sanctuary policies lead to the very raids the left screeches about.

Think about it: What better way to avoid ICE descending on communities to find dangerous immigrants than to simply let agents take the offenders into custody at jail sites? It should be a no-brainer.

Yet somehow, Gov. Gavin Newsom and other lefties deem it laudable to shield and then free offenders, perhaps to offend and victimize again, in the name of ideology and hatred of President Trump and the GOP.

The result is what angel dad Anatoly Varfolomeev — whose daughter was killed by an immigrant offender — called “disgusting sanctuary madness.”

Despite such tragedies, Newsom and “leaders” in places like LA, SF and San Diego don’t reconsider their approach.

They revel in tossing the wrench.
