Neighbor Rodney Mckinney, who witnessed the śh́óóting’s aftermath, said it was a “sad day.”

The teen was charged in Milwaukee’s juvenile court system on Monday, as authorities said they’re looking into how he came to acquire the gun.

Jurnee’s heartbroken cousin, Amya Burton-Lewis, said there was “nobody like” the “sweet” four-year-old, who was playing cops and robbers when the siblings got ahold of the gun.

“I hate that this is how everybody has to know Jurnee,” Burton-Lewis told WTMJ.

She also told the local TV station that the gun was securely stored before the śh́óóting, and that she didn’t know how the child got access to it.

As a result, local police are asking gun owners to be especially diligent in storing their firearms and keeping them out of the reach of children.
