Six Flags Shut Down Nine Major Coasters Overnight and Watched Its Stock š” rš˜¢sh Toward a 17-Year Low After One Fatal Ejection

Within hours of the October 12, 2026 ejection on Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, the company announced it had temporarily closed nine similar attractions at six other parks in the United States and Canada out of an abundance of caution. The list included Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure, Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America, Behemoth and Leviathan at Canada’s Wonderland, Fury 325 and Thunder Striker at Carowinds, Orion and Diamondback at Kings Island, and the Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Most of the closed rides are Bolliger & Mabillard hypercoasters or giga-coasters sharing design family characteristics with the Georgia Goliath; the Magic Mountain unit is a different manufacturer’s model that was later removed from the closed list in some updates. Six Flags stated that guest and į“€ssociate safety remained a top priority and that it was cooperating with local authorities.

The Georgia park itself reopened on October 16 for its Fright Fest schedule, but Goliath stayed fenced off with no anticipated reopening date. Georgia’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire confirmed the ride’s last inspection on March 16, 2026, reported no violations and said it was conducting a comprehensive review of records. Bolliger & Mabillard indicated it was actively investigating and declined further comment until it had a clearer understanding. Shares of Six Flags Entertainment (ticker FUN) fell sharply the following trading day. Reports placed the decline between roughly 13 and 16 percent, with the stock trading near or below $10 and reaching levels not seen since late 2009 in some accounts.

The drop came against a backdrop of existing financial pressure: the company had posted losses after its merger with Cedar Fair, faced high debt service, and had seen attendance declines and activist investor calls to explore a sale. Analysts noted that safety concerns, while historically secondary to weather and macroeconomic factors for the stock, moved to the foreground after the fatality. Additional parks later closed other similar rides, bringing the total number of affected attractions higher in some tallies. Cobb County Commission Chairwoman Lisa N. Cupid expressed sorrow for the horror witnessed by patrons and employees at a park that has operated since 1967. Six Flags said it was providing support to affected guests and team members.

The speed of the multi-park closures signaled that operators viewed the incident as potentially relevant beyond a single train or single park, even while investigations remained ongoing and no official determination of cause had been released. Markets reacted to the combination of the fatality, the injured juveniles, the temporary loss of major attractions at multiple locations, and the possibility of longer regulatory or operational interruptions. As of mid-to-late October the Georgia park was open again, Goliath remained closed, and both police and state regulators continued their reviews of restraints, maintenance logs, and operating procedures. The episode illustrated how a single rare ejection event on a 20-year-old hypercoaster can prompt precautionary shutdowns across a national chain and produce an immediate, measurable impact on the parent company’s share price while the underlying technical and procedural questions stay under formal investigation.
