NANCY GUTHRIE DISAPPEARANCE: INVESTIGATORS RULE OUT NEW RANSOM MESSAGE AS FAMILY CONTINUES SEARCH FOR ANSWERS

Nearly nine months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home, authorities say the investigation remains active. A newly reported ransom message was deemed not credible, while her family continues to appeal for information.

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, remains unresolved as investigators continue working to establish what happened to her.

Nancy was last seen at her home in the Tucson area of Arizona on January 31, 2026, and was reported missing the following day after she failed to appear for a planned online church service. Investigators believe she was taken against her will, but authorities have not publicly identified a suspect in the disappearance.

BREAKING NEWS: Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been foundNEW RANSOM MESSAGE DEEMED NOT CREDIBLE

One of the latest developments came in late September, when the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI investigated a newly reported message claiming to be connected to Nancy’s disappearance.

On September 29, authorities said the message was not credible after reviewing the information. They also warned the public that people may try to exploit the case through fraudulent ransom demands or other communications.

The warning followed earlier purported ransom notes that surfaced after Nancy went missing. In July, investigators released two notes in the hope that members of the public might recognize the wording or handwriting and provide useful leads.

One note demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, while another claimed Nancy had died. The claims in those messages were not, by themselves, proof of what had happened to her.

Authorities have urged anyone who receives a message claiming to involve Nancy to report it directly to law enforcement rather than send money or share personal information.

Savannah Guthrie has made repeated public appeals for information about her mother, describing the family’s anguish and asking anyone who knows something to come forward.

In an emotional message shared months after Nancy vanished, Savannah urged people who might recognize details in the reported ransom notes or have noticed something unusual to contact investigators. She also acknowledged that someone with information might be afraid or uncertain about what to do.

The family has continued to seek answers while the investigation remains active. Despite widespread attention and the involvement of federal investigators, no publicly identified suspect has been charged in connection with Nancy’s disappearance.

INVESTIGATORS CONTINUE TO EXAMINE LEADS

The case has included a review of surveillance footage from Nancy’s home. In February, the FBI released footage showing a masked individual apparently tampering with the home’s doorbell camera around the time she disappeared. Investigators have also examined forensic evidence and other potential leads.

In August, human remains were found in a desert area near Tucson. Authorities said there was no indication at that time that the discovery was connected to Nancy’s case.

Investigators have cautioned against treating unverified messages or unrelated discoveries as breakthroughs. Each lead must be assessed on the evidence available.

A CASE THAT REMAINS UNRESOLVED

For Nancy’s family, the absence of clear answers has prolonged an already devastating ordeal. Her disappearance has drawn national attention, but the central questions remain: where is Nancy, and who is responsible for her disappearance?

As of the latest reports reviewed for this article, authorities have not announced a confirmed breakthrough. The investigation remains active, and officials continue to urge anyone with credible information to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. <Cite refs={[“turn404001news14″,”turn404001search4”]}/>
