“NO FAMILY SHOULD EVER HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS” — TORONTO REAL ESTATE CEO SPEAKS OUT AFTER MASKED MEN INVADE FAMILY HOME
David Morton says his family is traumatized after three masked intruders broke into their Toronto mansion, leaving him and his two daughters with gunshot wounds and his wife injured in a hammer attack.
A Toronto real estate executive has spoken publicly for the first time about the terrifying home invasion that left his entire family injured after three masked men forced their way into their home.
David Morton, 75, chief executive of the MAC Group, described the attack as a horrific experience that shattered the sense of safety his family once had inside their own home.
In a statement released on Friday, October 30, Morton said:
“What should have been the safety and security of our own home became a terrifying and life-threatening experience.”
He added that it was difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest.
THREE FAMILY MEMBERS SHOT
The attack happened at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, at the family’s residence on Hyde Park Circle in Toronto’s exclusive Bridle Path neighbourhood.
According to Toronto police, three masked men forced their way into the property through a rear entrance.
Two suspects were reportedly carrying handguns, while the third had a hammer.
The intruders made their way to the second floor, where they confronted the family and demanded valuables.
An altercation followed, during which multiple śh́óts were fired.
Morton and his two adult daughters, Maggie and Cristina, were shot. His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was also injured after being struck with a hammer.
All four family members required emergency medical treatment. Doriana was later released from hospital, while David and his daughters remained hospitalized in the latest reports.
“PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SLEEP PEACEFULLY”
In his statement, Morton expressed concern about the growing violence associated with home invasions in Toronto.
“No family should ever have to experience this,” he said.
“People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.”
He also thanked those who had reached out to support the family during an incredibly difficult time.
The family said its immediate priority was recovery and supporting one another, while asking for privacy as they deal with the aftermath.
THREE SUSPECTS STILL AT LARGE
Toronto police are searching for three male suspects believed to be around 20 years old.
They were reportedly dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings before fleeing the property in a dark-coloured SUV.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the suspects managed to take any valuables or whether the family was specifically targeted.
Police Chief Myron Demkiw said experienced investigators and specialized teams were following every lead.
He also promised an increased police presence in the neighbourhood as the investigation continues.
A FAMILY LEFT TO RECOVER
For the Morton family, the attack has turned what should have been an ordinary night at home into a deeply traumatic experience.
David Morton ended his statement with a message that reflects the fear and uncertainty left behind by the incident: no one should have to worry about armed strangers breaking into their home while they sleep.
As investigators continue searching for the suspects, the family is now focused on healing and finding a way forward.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Toronto police.
