21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FALLS 328 FEET TO HER dєatᩚh WHILE TAKING WATERFALL PHOTO — HER FAMILY WATCHED IN HORROR
Bacilia Rojas Antezana was visiting a scenic waterfall in Bolivia with her family when she reportedly slipped on the rocks and plunged into a deep gorge. Her body was recovered the following morning after an urgent search.
A 21-year-old woman has died after falling approximately 328 feet from a waterfall in Bolivia while reportedly trying to take a photograph in front of the natural attraction.
Bacilia Rojas Antezana was visiting the Sehuencas waterfall when the tragic incident happened. According to reports, she slipped on the rocks and fell into a deep rocky gorge in front of her horrified family.
The fall sent her into the fast-flowing Pajcha River, triggering an urgent search operation involving local authorities, rescue teams and members of the surrounding community.
Her family raised the alarm at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday after witnessing the incident.
AN URGENT SEARCH THROUGH DANGEROUS TERRAIN
Following the family’s report, local officials and rescue personnel began searching along the Pajcha River in the Totora area.
The operation proved particularly challenging because of the river’s powerful currents and the difficult rocky terrain surrounding the waterfall.
Mayor Wilder Castellón confirmed that local authorities had joined the search alongside Bacilia’s relatives and concerned community members.
At approximately 10 a.m. the following morning, rescuers discovered her body submerged in the river and trapped between rocks.
The police chief of Totora later described the difficult recovery operation to local reporters.
He explained that the team had spotted a body beneath the water, wedged between rocks, and that retrieving it required assistance from members of the community.
After the recovery, Bacilia was taken to a hospital before her remains were released to her family.
THE WATERFALL HAD ALREADY BEEN CLOSED OVER SAFETY CONCERNS
One particularly concerning detail emerged following the tᩚraɢedy.
The Sehuencas waterfall, where Bacilia fell, had reportedly been closed to visitors in March 2026 by Bolivia’s Ministry of Development Planning and Environment.
At the time, officials said the attraction would remain closed until appropriate conditions could be established to provide tourist services and guarantee visitor safety.
The closure was also intended to allow improvements to the existing attraction.
The circumstances surrounding Bacilia’s visit to the site have not been fully detailed in the available reports.
A FAMILY LEFT HEARTBROKEN
Bacilia’s dєatᩚh has brought renewed attention to the dangers that can surround seemingly peaceful natural attractions.
Waterfalls often draw visitors hoping to capture photographs and enjoy the scenery. However, wet rocks, steep drops and powerful currents can create serious hazards, even for people who are simply standing near the water.
For Bacilia’s family, what began as a visit to a beautiful natural location ended in an unimaginable tᩚraɢedy.
The 21-year-old’s dєatᩚh is a heartbreaking reminder that caution and respect for safety restrictions are essential when visiting waterfalls and other natural attractions.
