Pickup Truck Plows Into Youth Soccer Game in Kansas, Leaving Two Dead and Multiple Children Injured
A youth soccer match in Wichita, Kansas, turned into a devastating scene when a pickup truck drove onto the playing field, 𝘬iᩚlling a six-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man and injuring several other people.
The incident occurred on October 17, 2026, at the Stryker Sports Complex, where families had gathered to watch children play. Police received emergency calls at approximately 3:25 p.m. local time after a Chevrolet pickup entered the field and struck multiple people.
The victims who died were identified as Cole Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35. Both were from McPherson, Kansas, and authorities said they were not related.
Ten people sustained traumatic injuries and were transported to local hospitals. They included five children between the ages of five and nine, as well as adults ranging from 28 to 68 years old. Another woman was hospitalized for a medical issue unrelated to traumatic injuries.
Police identified the driver as a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, Kansas. Two of her children were inside the truck, while another child was playing soccer on a separate field at the complex.
According to the Wichita Police Department’s preliminary findings, the truck had been parked near the soccer fields before it drove onto the playing area. Investigators have not publicly established what caused the vehicle to move onto the field or whether the incident was intentional.
The driver was released from custody without charges while the investigation continued. Authorities said they were awaiting toxicology results and a mechanical examination of the vehicle. Police also interviewed dozens of witnesses and requested video footage from anyone who may have recorded the incident.
