Young Bronx Mother diᩚєs After Being Pushed from 15th-Floor Balcony While Holding Infant Daughter; Family Holds Vigil and Suspect Remains in Custody

In the early hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez was fatally injured after being pushed from the 15th-floor balcony of her apartment building on Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx. At the time of the fall, she was holding her 8-month-old daughter in her arms. Ramirez died at the hospital. Her baby survived the plunge and has been receiving medical care, with her condition described at various points as ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal, then stable, and later reported by some sources as serious and concerning. Family members have said Ramirez protected her child with her own body until the end.

Police identified the child’s father and Ramirez’s estranged boyfriend, 31-year-old Angel Carrasco, as the person responsible. According to investigators and neighbors, the couple had a history of conflict. Carrasco had faced prior domestic-violence-related charges earlier in the year. On the night of the incident, he had reportedly brought flowers in an attempt to reconcile. An argument followed, and neighbors later described hearing Ramirez pleading, asking him not to harm her or the baby.

After the fall, Carrasco fled the scene. A manhunt involving the NYPD and U.S. Marshals Service led to his arrest on Wednesday evening, October 7. An acquaintance provided information about his location, allowing officers to take him into custody. When he was later escorted from the police station, he was seen smiling as people gathered and shouted at him. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, and related counts. He underwent a psychiatric evaluation after his arrest.

On Saturday, October 10, family, friends, community members, and domestic-violence advocates gathered outside the apartment building for a vigil. Ramirez’s mother, also named Nathaly, spoke emotionally, saying her daughter had loved and protected the baby “until the very end.” She expressed graтιтude that the infant, referred to as Novaly or Nova, was still alive and receiving care. Ramirez’s grandmother, Minerva, remembered her as a joyful and loving person known to family as Michelle. She also addressed women experiencing 𝘢bu𝘴e, urging them to leave at the first signs of danger rather than trying to change an abuser. Purple balloons symbolizing domestic-violence awareness were released during the gathering.

The baby was first treated at Jacobi Medical Center and later transferred to Cohen Children’s Medical Center for specialized care. As of the most recent public reports around October 11–12, family and hospital sources continued to describe her condition as serious while expressing hope for her recovery.

The case has drawn attention to issues of domestic violence and the risks faced by young mothers. Authorities continue to handle the legal proceedings against Carrasco, while the community has focused on supporting Ramirez’s family and praying for the infant’s recovery.
